Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Not saying I agree with all the Hush Hush stuff but I am in a bind sorry...

For the record, while I find the childish attitude and disrespect shown by the NESCAC as a whole to be utterly disgusting, I do respect the need for some, such as you, to reluctantly, hopefully under duress, “tow the party line”. Seldom does martyrdom enhance the situation, so I do respect, though I don’t envy, your situation, like Charlie, I think you do what you can, which is certainly commendable. Thank you for your contributions :)

If you can't tell us what is happening, can you tell us what isn't happening? (Who has seen "Good Morning, Vietnam!" ? ;) )

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Permit me to rant here.

We have a story brewing out there that may have major implications on D-III hockey for years to come. How come there is NOTHING on the D-III page, NOTHING from any of the USCHO eastern "correspondents"??

If this was D-I, there would be 30 stories on 3 different web pages. But since D-III merits about as much coverage as a mid season matchup between Bentley and AIC, something has got to be done to satisfy the majority of college hockey playing schools.

I understand your complaint about about lack of coverage of this issue but so far there isn't a story with real facts. At this point it is only rumors, thoughts, theories, and speculation. In the past, USCHO has stayed away from stories where there isn't anything concrete to report. They may (probably) know the facts, but if the leagues don't want things out just yet, USCHO would be crazy to leak details before they've gotten the OK. Tick off the leagues now, and you might not get any cooperation or information in the future.

As far as your point about the differences between DI and DIII coverage, right now there are threads on page 1 of the DIII Forum that haven't been touched since June 30. On the DI forum, the page 1 life expectancy right now is about 24 hours. Threads from June have already dropped off page 4. As a business, USCHO puts its resources to the area with the most usage. I may not like it, but can't fault it.

Of course, it may also say that DI fans have no life what so ever.:) :)

No, we're just beating the hell out of Penn State Hockey speculation and the related BTHC talk that always goes along with.

Wait a minute. Upon further review...........:p

This forum proves the D-III philosophy --- quality over quantity. :D

Nothing about a EASports College Hockey game?

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Any word on the NESCAC:ECAC-East interlock and subsequent reconfiguration of leagues?

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

The interlock is over.

Everything points to both leagues going to a "Double Round Robin" expect each league to have one more none conference game and each team should have a non-conference weekend during the season which will be new for both leagues.

ECAC East will have a tough time with 4 D-II games and Do not look for any of the NESCAC teams to play any of the East teams in Non conference play, everything I have heard and seen the coaches from the NESCAC think way too much of themselves to "stoop down to that level" again. I am guessing the obvious snub and total disrespect that the East coaches got will push many of them to look elsewhere as well.

I personally hope that Midd still plays Norwich and Castleton, and I think Bowdoin and Colby will still play SME and UNE due to location, and I would like to think that Babson will still play Tufts. Everything else will die quickly as the break was painful and terribly one sided.

To be fair, about the NESCAC coaches - it seems that the ones that got snobby seem to have been the coaches of the less successful programs. Sheer availability of slots is going to limit the number of NC games that the NESCAC teams could play against the ECAC East. With 6 NC games, and commitments with the Primelink and their own tournament Midd has only two NC games to spend. Teams in the neighborhood of Midd: Platty, NU, Castleton - not enough to go around for an annual rivalry game with all three. Sad situation.

Furthermore, Norwich is not that much better off if the DIIs remain in the ECAC East - we get three NC games outside of the Primelink and the NSB tournament (previously the Times-Argus).

I wonder if there will be an option for some teams to play two at home and then two away the following year? Case in point: Hamiilton and Amherst vs. Bowdoin and Colby. Bowdoin and Colby play 2 at home against Ham and Amh and the next year 2 away to cut down on travel costs. Some teams like Midd vs. Williams, etc it would make sense to play home and away every year, but for the long trips it might be better to do otherwise.

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

I think having some changes in schedule would be an excellent idea, especially the Maine trip and the Hamilton trip are very far for most, I would hope that some outside the box thinking is taking place to try to get some positives out of an mostly negative situation.

I think Norwich Like Midd is handcuffed with who and when they can play, if the East starts earlier that should help Norwich a little.

If both NESCAC and SUNYAC and East have "bye weekends" I hope to new rivalries can develop for example Norwich and Castleton vs Platty and Midd weekend, or Platty Potsdam vs Norwich Midd etc.... I would hope that some of the coaches are looking to make some new games happen.

With an 18 game league season, and tournament commitments, there won't be room in the schedule for the kind of weekends you are proposing. One way it could happen. Divide the ECAC East into two divisions of 5 teams. Play each team in your division twice and each team in the other divsion once. That makes a 13 game schedule with room for 12 non conf games. Take out two tournaments for NU and you still would have 8 non conf games to schedule. If you put the DIIs in opposite divisions, you end up with 3 DII games instead of 4. You could make the first round of the playoffs all cross over games 1 - 4, and 2 - 3. Divisions might be North: NU, Mike, Castleton, Skidmore and NEC South: Everybody else. (You could call this East West but the concept of the Western Division of the ECAC East offends me)

Will this happen - most likely not, but the idea amuses me.

You would lose the balanced schedule if you did it that way. The new schedule will probably be like women's NESCAC hockey with a home-and-home series every year (except for one odd series every year due to the fact that there are only 9 NESCAC women's teams).

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Thank you all for your replies, it seems there has been no formal announcement from any school or league. Based simply on the Avatars purchased, the DIII fans have given some money to the USCHO, albeit less than the D I followers, perhaps USCHO will accept the question and pursue an answer.

I'm confused

I'm confused

Do not look for any of the NESCAC teams to play any of the East teams in Non conference play
If they think the East teams are beneath them and choose not to play them, who will they play other than themselves?? are not the NE or MASCAC teams also beneath them??

Methinks Norwich is the cause of this. The NESCAC teams got tired of those sub-human so called student-athletes handing them their arses every year {grin}

Derek - Your first assignment ... somehow convince the elitists to once again stoop to the level of serfdom. Good luck!

Don't expect an answer that way. We all await a formal announcement. There are some people who know officially, but are under a news embargo.
