Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

OK Folks -- the ECAC Convention has started down in Hyannis, MA.

Here's what's happening:
Monday
8:00 - 9:45 ECAC-NE Meeting
1:30 - 3:30 ECAC-E Meeting
4:00 - 5:15 NCAA D-II Strategic Initiatives
4:00 - 5:15 NCAA D-III Strategic Initiatives

Tuesday
8:00 - 10:00 ECAC-W Meeting
10:00 - 11:30 MASCAC Hockey Meeting

Will there be closure after by the end of the month????

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Also, having the D-II and D-III Strategic Initiative brakouts at the same time would suggest that neither is much interested in what the other is stratigizing....Unless of course they are being held together in the same place.

I think that particular bit of scheduling is due primarily to this being a all-sport convention: just lumping the DIIs in with the DIIIs makes less sense when sports other than hockey are involved. I would also add one panel of interest to the list at the beginning of the thread. From earlier today:

11:30am - 12:30pm DIII Conference Commissioners Meeting

OK, it's Wednesday the 29th. Any hint of news from the ECAC Meeting?

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Just wondering allong with TCTiger if there was any news coming out of the ECAC meeting on the Cape. Hard for me to understand the process of the potential breakup of the interlock. You have to think that fans deserve a little info in the interlock is going to end in a year.

Agreed that we fans would like/need info but perhaps the silence has more to do with plans for the post-interlock arrangements not yet being fully finalized than a desire to keep us in the dark . . .

We seem to know that in the short run, the ECAC E will remain as is. In the long run, there is probably a lot of negotiation going on. I would guess that some of the long run discussion would center on the status of the two Saints. If one (or both) of them would move to DIII, I would guess that they would stay in the East, but if not, they might be replaced by a program from the West or NE. It seems as though the East is the most stable of the ECAC's set of DIII men's hockey leagues, and there may be a desire to preserve that tradition. This is all in the nature of a WAG, and I could be totally off the mark, too.

Thanks, Charlie -- I guess two years means that the next three years are pretty well set, baring nuclear holocaust or something equally scary

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Also two more tidbits: I know next year the ECAC EAST is going to play games earlier in the season, the first or 2nd weekend in Nov....Also, each team/travel partner will have a bye weekend from conference play...I know the tentative league schedule (or at least USM's) for 11-12 not sure if I can post that quite yet...:)

With 5 sets of travel partners, each weekend you have a pair of teams sitting out - you could use those byes to put the travel partner games on weekends instead of the current weeknight arrangement.

The shame isn't that we don't know, I think it has been established that the outcome was effectively posted. The shame is that neither the NESCAC or ECAC officials have made any official public comments. This isn't Pearl Harbor or the Battle of Normandy, and hect even if it were, how long after D-Day do we have to wait:confused: :o

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

My crystal ball is becoming is a little clearer on the interlock breakup but why all the mystery. Sure most of the USCHO Online crowd has figured it out but I bet the average ECAC East or NESCAC fan is clueless. Hockey fans I talk to have no idea anything is happening to the interlock.

For the intirim the ECAC East continuation for 2 years looks good but after that I hope St. A's and St. Mike's drop down to D3 in all sports. I am not sure what the current interest of Curry, Wentworth, Manhattanville, and Plymouth but thores teams could make a good addition to a strong D3 league if the future.

Just curious how NESCAC fans view the breakup since few of there opinions have surfaced to date?

That is what is being discussed between UNE/USM...It probably will happen...

Which, I think, would allow for the ECAC-E, NE, and MASCAC, to have some nice inter conference games before they all go into conference play in mid November.

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Good Idea
Play travel partner games on Friday / Saturday of Bye Weekend

Steve- Because of the twice around thing you have to have two bye weekends. You could play one of the games on the first bye and the other on the second or you could play a two game home and home series on one of the bye weekends.

Sounds like the SUNYAC Schedule to me. ;)
