Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

Re: Eastern D-III hockey -- where do we go from here???

...As for officials the East has the worst officials by far compared to what I have seen in the SUNYAC, West and D-I it is really bad...

ECAC To Hold Ice Hockey Officiating Tryouts

...The ECAC assigns officials for the ECAC Men’s East Ice Hockey League, ECAC Men’s West Ice Hockey League, ECAC Northeast Ice Hockey League, ECAC Women’s East Ice Hockey League, ECAC Women’s West Ice Hockey League, Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC), New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), Niagara University, Robert Morris University, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and Syracuse University.

Today is ECAC Decision Day....

Is anyone from USCHO covering the meeting in Springfield?

Or will the meeting be in the NESCAC mold? Closed doors, no official announcements, results trickle out by unsubstantiated rumor until we know what happened? Am I bitter about the breakup of the Interlock? Yes.

I would hope many in the ECAC-E would feel the same way, and would make sure they didn't do the same thing.

While waiting for news from the big Pow Wow I was wondering when the NESCAC has to give official notification to break the interlock. I would think that date would be something like 6-30 or 7-31 but both these dates have passed without official notification. Anyone know when the announcement has to be made?

Am I mad about the breakup of the interlock-no; dissapointed yes, I look at it as an opportunity for Norwich to expand it's schedule and maybe start playing games against the US Under 18 which would give the Cadets a good test. All the remaining ECAC East teams are very competitive and I look forward to Norwich playing the likes of Southern Maine, NEC, Babson, Castleton, UMB, and Skidmore a twice a year. The way Castleton has been recruiting you got to think that maybe they are trying to make the a Norwich type jump in the standing this year.

Lastley I sort of curious to see if any Northeast or ECAC West teams break away to join the East.

Hearing from an usually reliable source that the ECACE voted to preserve the current league as it is .This arrangement will stay in place for three years and St.A's and St.Mike's will remain in the 10 team league.
Teams will play a home and away schedule, begining in the 2011-2012 season.

Interesting...

Now, if we could just get those games against the DII teams to count. I guess that means the current travel partner set up will remain in place.

IF the ECAC-E is intact with 10 teams, does this mean an 18 game schedule and 4, count em, 4 games will not count towards tournament selection?

Huh?

That probably means a Pool C will be hard to get, although with the addition of the MASCAC when this becomes effective, there will be fewer Pool C slots anyway.

Remember, though, a game that doesn't count isn't the same as a loss - it's just a smaller denominator for the percentages - and all of the criteria go by percentages. It will just magnify the importance of the in-region NC games.

How much more of a notification do you need....the interlock is done. This schedule confirms that the NESCAC has notified the ECAC

Exactly. We all gripe about there being no public announcement about it, but the reality is that they don't have to tell us, so long as they told the ECAC-E. Besides what kind of PR is that? "League News: We're a bunch of uptight snobs and have decided to be REALLY snobbish and end the interlock, which will be one step closer to bringing us to the goal which our football league has already achieved." Yeah, they are absolutely desperate for that kind of attention.

Yes, what is the likelihood of that coming to fruition?

Many of us here in the Dog River Valley are still annoyed about the football thing. Norwich/Midd was one of the better DIII football rivalries - hopefully eventually Norwich/Castleton will gain momentum as a rivalry, but nothing really replaced it.

Not true oh retired Professor of Math (and other duties as assigned). The MASCAC (or SUMAC) will take the Pool B slot currently occupied by the ECAC-W. The amount of Pool C slots (3) remains the same. Pool B goes to 0.

Ah, but you can almost bet that one of the Pool C slots will go to someone in the ECAC West or ... there will be a reorganization that allows the ECAC West to get a bid ... or ... 60,000,000 angels will dance on the head of a pin... :)

Prof

If the ECAC-W has another season like last, then the conference will be SOL come selection sundae.

After next year the Pool C's will be reduced by one and the MASCAC will get an AQ. Pool B will still be in effect, going to a conference that does not qualify for an AQ. This will be the WEST, so in actuality the WEST is getting an AQ!!

8 AQ's (East, NE, NESCAC, MASCAC, NCHA, MIAA, MCHA, SUNYAC)
1 Pool B
2 Pool C's

No Pool B, not enough teams (only 5 - The ratio of Pool B teams to Pool B bids is to be equal to the ratio of Pool A teams to Pool A bids. That number has to be at least 7:1 because it takes 7 teams to get an AQ. That gives less than 1 Pool B bid, and the NCAA truncates instead of rounds in such calculations. (To find the number of Pool B bids, multiply by the reciprocal of the access ratio, which is guaranteed to be at least 7. The best case scenario for the ECAC W would be that the ratio is exactly 7:1. In that case the number of bid is calculated as 5(1/7) = 5/7, and 5/7 is less than 1, which is rounded down to 0.
