Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Where were you Bruins fans yesterday? We left Portland at 2 after checking their site, the roads were fine, and when we parked at 4:45 the parking attendants told us the game was canceled. Then we found the email that the B's sent out at 3:45 about the cancellation. We certainly didn't see a road issue, but if it was due to roads, they knew that and could have made the decision and announcements by noon. At least we had a great meal in the North End.
Apparently the gahden workers could not make it in.

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Just spent 2 hours plowing the top end of the driveway(plowed twice yesterday), man there is a lot of snow out there. Put the tractor in the shop, time for the Canadian studded ring chains so I can plow to the chicken coup, down the driveway and out back so I can get wood in. Hopefully I don't get stuck

I have to say good luck getting out what with this second storm coming.( i'm so Po'ed at the wx channel naming winter storms to get more money. I boycott their station now) My dad lives in suburban Boston and he's ok so far, going to try to go there on tuesday.

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

It really doesn't matter how fluffy the snow is when you have to shovel 3 feet of it. Snowblower doesn't want to work, so the driveway and steps had to be shoveled. What fun. I also noticed part of the gutter along the roof blew away. Wonder if we'll ever find that. At least the wind blew all the snow off the front of the roof!

The Weather Channel can try to claim that Orko is named after the thunder god of Basque mythology...we all know better.

Was anybody else there? That would be cool, walking through a snowy and relatively quiet North End on a Saturday night.

let's face it, they named things after pop culture stuff because they knew it would generate memes and the rest.

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Finally done cleaning up, I could barely plow the hill but I got it done, might be a wee bit narrow but it gets sun all day long and it will settle big time after a few sunny days. Won't have to worry about letting chickens out, drifted right in their yard, it faces south also but it will be awhile melting out 3ft of drifted snow. I'm used to 12 to 18 inch storms but this baby packed a wallop, I haven't seen this much snow in less than 24 hrs since I was a kid

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Walked over to the T garage to get my car. Looks like I'll have to make that walk daily till someone decides to plow the sidewalks. Crazy. Supermarket was open and shelves were full. Tried to get gas ay my normal station but it was closed and not even plowed. The street behind my building I use to get to my parking lot was only half plowed yesterday. Looks like they made a pass at it last night, but the road is only wide enough for one car. We're supposed to get rain and freezing rain at some point tomorrow or Tuesday. That should be fun on top of all this snow.

You need to take some pictures of all the snow you've moved. and of your tractor as well.

This is from a couple of year ago, I think I've posted it before, its Rte 1 below Mars Hill in the county. They're trying to get the white line back :)

So yeah Maine is used to getting snow just not this much at once

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

Do the Easterners know how stupid they look naming storms?

Do you realize how stupid you look having not read this thread at all?

Oh, good news for the folks in the Midwest. According to the Weather Channel you'll get to deal with Winter Storm Orko soon, so you don't have to feel left out. :)

It looks like we had the same thought. :)

Enjoy your own stupidly named storm!

ETA: Hey mookie - jinx!!! :)

Re: Eastern Bias- Blizzard stories

OK, so we didn't get the super-storm in lower Michigan like the Northeast, but we had 8 to 14 inches in West Michigan on the 7th.

The joke going around the office this week was:

Q: How do you convert a dishwasher into a snowblower?

A: Hand your wife a shovel.
