East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Darci and Matt - Did you see yourselves on the highlights shown during the selection show yesterday? Some of UNH's finest.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

There was a time this year when I felt UNH was a top 5 team. For that reason alone, I'm glad they're in. That being said I like DU to win a close one over UNH after UNH beats Cornell in OT.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Sadly I was waaaaay too excited when I saw that.

Oh come on, how often are the whole lot of us ever on television? I mean its not like we sit in a location where significant things happen in the game that would cause cameras to focus on our general location on a regular basis...

Oh wait

Hence why I was way too excited.

Nice to mention Alaska, but I think RIT making the tournament after only 5 years in DI should have gotten a mention.

Probably should have your right and Rosie might agree. We'll bring this to his attention, maybe he can give RIT a plugin for his weekly column, which usually comes out on Friday.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

If you are going off ticketmaster or the local box office they are not showing the blocks available through the participating schools. While I agree this may be better than average attended regional I doubt that it will be close to a full house.

It's a shame because there should be some great hockey.

I agree that it is a shame.

However, I recommend you try and find past regional attendance figures at Albany. Getting a figure above 7,000 this year would be an accomplishment. The only chance anything near a full house would occur would be if RPI and Cornell were both in a regional in Albany. And even that might not produce 10,000 people.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Just for comparison, take a look at the Regional Finals between BU and UNH last yeah in Manchester - only 7863 there and that was basically a home game for UNH, and a reasonable drive for BU.

Friday night might top that, but definitely not Saturday, regardless of who makes it

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

That's probably more like 35% CU, 25% UNH, 20-25% RIT, 15% or so DU and random. Maybe I'm too optimistic on the RIT side, but I think you underestimated a bit. Anyway, we'll see on Friday.

It could easily be that you're right, as you say, we'll find out. Good luck in your game.

You heard it here first: RIT will upset Denver! The Chevy is overdue for maintenance.

1)Take it to the bank
2) Bet the farm
3) Boone is going home after one game

FIRE SCOTTY OWENS

Thanks Kepler and right back at you. (I guess I should bring along both my orange RIT sweathshirt and my old "Cornell Hockey" sweatshirt, or the Cornell one under the RIT one ... I kind of like that! ;) )

Are you serious, who came up with that one? A first grader?

The Red thing during the national anthem does not bother me, those are the kind of traditions that make college hockey so great.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

There's a rumor that a certain number of UNH fans may have actually adopted the RED! cheer during the SSB (as well as "STILL THERE!", "O!", and "...home of the SIOUX" (sometimes "Cats")). They're a strange bunch, though. ;)

I sang the anthem at the Cornell game at the Whit; I KNEW to expect it, because it's done among our friends (we're closet Cornell fans, shh!), but it was so **** loud it still almost threw me off . . . :D

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

There were about 2,000 people at that Regional, IIRC. The final was on Easter Sunday, which didn't help.

Albany will be a different story, attendence wise.

I would think RIT would have had a better shot at Denver had Denver won or played well in St. Paul, and the Pioneers would perhaps be naturally overlooking the Tigers in the Regional.

This year, with Denver having played poorly in St. Paul, I think we'll see a much more focused Denver effort in the Regional as a result. Denver has played well all season and was the best team in the rugged WCHA. There is a lot of personal and school pride to salvage with the bad showing last weekend, and I think you'll see a different DU team in Albany than you saw last weekend. If we don't see a better performance from Denver, I would be very surprised...this DU team won't be taking anyone lightly.

Denver has a great hockey team...but I feel RIT will stay w/them every step of the way !! RIT has a very physical team w/alot of offensive firepower. Alot of people look and say, they play in the AHA...big deal...Is Cornell in the sweet 16 in basketball. I am glad RIT beat Sacred Heart in their final beacause SH doesn't have any defense !! RIT will keep up w/ Denver...this game will be a nail biter .:D Gotta root for my AHA team...GO TIGERS !!!

Anything can happen, and sometimes does. But what happens here will be no surprise, Denver will dominate RIT. DU has been back and forth between the #1 and #2 team in the country all year, RIT just broke into the top 20.

Congrats to RIT for making the tourney, but there is too much disparity in the level of talent here.

I grew up in Ithaca and was raised on Cornell Hockey. I also attended UNH and have spent many Friday and Saturday nights at the Whit cheering for the 'Cats. However on this Friday I will be screaming out "Red" during the national anthem along with everyone else who will be wearing Red. (A tradition at Lynah since before I was born)

I remember 2003 in Buffalo (and 2002 in Worcester) very well and therefore would never presume to say that there is a guaranteed win for either Cornell or UNH. Having said that however, it might benefit UNH fans to concentrate on cheering for their team to score rather then on what the Lynah Faithful shout during the anthem.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Having been a Cornell student from 2000 to 2004, it's hard not to get excited about the UNH matchup and the possibility of retribution. It'll be interesting to see how the earlier victory this year affects this game. On one hand, Cornell knows how to beat UNH, but on the other hand, UNH knows how they were beaten and what to watch for. Plus it looks like the UNH team we're playing now is much better than the one we saw in January.
...........but Cornell is also playing incredibly well now, perhaps just as well as they were when they beat UNH. I'm not sure when I've seen such a dominating effort in the ECAC tourney (4 games, 3 shutouts, outscored opponents 14-1). Scrivens is playing with tremendous confidence and we're getting offense from some of the non first line type players. Should be a good game, hopefully the winner avoids overtime to have some legs for Denver the next night. I'm hoping Schafer doesn't have to shorten the bench, don't want Riley & Co. running out of steam. Looks like a good regional, won't be easy for anyone to emerge from Albany victorious.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

If RIT can jam up the neutral zone, avoid turnovers, stay out of the penalty box and play with intensity there's no doubt they could spring the upset.

The talent gap isn't the issue to me. The issue is Denver has been battle tested with 24 games against TUC's (15-7-2) and R.I.T hasn't played a single game against a Top 25 team.

So we really don't know how R.I.T. will react under pressure. That being said, R.I.T. has nothing to lose. Denver has everything to lose.
