Dump Term 2 Part 4: Twilight of the Derps

LBJ laughs at the notion of two Democrats gumming up the works. But all he did was overcome a Senate filibuster (a real one, not a threatened or imaginary one) led by members of his own party to override centuries of bigotry and codify basic human rights to people. As opposed to Obama who had to fight two people on an issue that enjoyed massive popularity.

Not to mention the months he spent wooing Olympia Snowe on Obamacare, watering down the bill time after time trying to win her vote, removing or changing the parts she found objectionable, and thus have it be "bipartisan", only to have her vote against it anyway.

Obama should have just flopped his johnson on the table, "Medicare for everyone, yes or no" and had at it, but nooooo, he just had to cater to both sides, be nice and inoffensive, so everyone liked him, nobody could object to nice, middle of the road, moderate policy, could they?

"A whole civilization will die tonight."

The President of the United States is saying that. And no one will hold him accountable.
The rest of the world knows the only thing dying tonight is American credibility.
Either he TACOs or we do something so stupid we give the keys to the world to China.

I loved LBJ too. I’ve also read plenty about LBJ. The situations were different. I don’t have to explain anymore as we both know the facts. I don’t think either of us are ignorant.

Obama could have flipped his (LB)Johnson onto the table. Maybe Snowe votes for it because she likes BBC. Maybe not. Maybe his Johnson turns off Nelson, and we don’t get the ACA at all.
Hindsight is 20/20. As a healthcare worker, ACA > no ACA, even the watered down Republican version* we’ve been getting.
Obama had political capital, and he picked healthcare, which was a mess. Roe in 2010 still seemed like sound law, simply because Calvinball wasn’t official SCOTUS policy yet.

I’m im agreement the Democratic leadership is currently feckless, rudderless, and captured by its donors. I’m in disagreement VBNMW is a poor decision, or even an ignorant one. I think quite the opposite. VBNMW didn’t get us here though. That much I know.

* I know the ACA was built in part on Romney’s Mass healthcare plan.

At least I can acknowledge that I've now had similar feelings to what my parents/grandparents felt during those 13 days in October 1962...

This is one time when if he TACOs I won't give him shit. Small price to pay for not committing genocide.

Amen, brother. To channel Kash Patel, I’m glad we avoided Valhalla tonight.

We can never normalize this. All of this is fucking tragic. The foreign policy is just despicable.
