Trump is openly threatening Blue State Governors that if they don't want World Cup matches moved they need to call him and let the National Guard in. I would love to see him try and move matches...

I imagine his pal Bob Kraft called and reminded him that the seven Cup games scheduled for Boston would be played in his stadium...

FIFA do not want to change venues at this late date and issued a very bland statement about fan safety. It would be a logistical nightmare to have to move games around, and all these sites have signed contracts that FIFA would be obligated to honor financially. Plus the expense and hassle of moving the games. OTOH, do FIFA want to piss off Bubbasucker ahead of the World Cup?

I'm surprised IOC organizers haven't announced a plan to leave LA and have the 2028 Games in Paris or Tokyo...

ETA: This was before today's foolishness in the Oval Office. He actually threatened it in October as well.

But how could he force FIFA to move games? Put the Army in front of the stadium and not let anyone in?

Fans are going to show up to the gate, teams will show up to the locker rooms, and the game will be played where it's scheduled.

And before you shout security, most security is provided locally.

He can't. He can tell his buddy to move them and that would put FIFA in a very uncomfortable position. He could make it impossible for international fans to enter the country to attend the games, but that would piss his billionaire friends (like Kraft) off because they would lose money.

I am planning to attend games for free anyway. I'll just dress up like an ICE agent and walk in. If anyone tries to stop me, I'll threaten to have them arrested.

I’m not saying it’s right or good, I’m just a saying that Trump will try to push as hard as he can. Some 2-street mayor will shout out that his town with a 500 seat capacity high school field can handle it, and, in Trump’s mind, that solves it. After all, who wouldn’t want to visit the posh locales of Jackson, MS, for a soccer game?

Contracts have been signed, games have been scheduled, and the logistics have been planned out. Once the draw happens everything is finalized and the details are filled in.

TBF, it would be really funny to see FIFA move games to placate Dump and end up in a mountain of lawsuits from the various host cities.
