Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

Even if none of this holds he is setting the agenda. Congress will finish the job.

Gay Marriage and Abortion could be dead by the SOTU.

Why do we need to import oil from Canada or Mexico?

Donnie's gonna be all 'drill baby, drill'.
I'm pretty sure this is a rhetorical question, but we import oil from Canada because it's cheap. Canada has limited production and distribution capabilities, and their downstairs neighbor has that in spades. So they're better off selling their oil at a slight loss ($60) when the US drilled oil is selling globally for more. (WTI is currently $73). US producers can sell what they drill on the market, profit, and then produce the Canadian oil and sell it within the US, and profit more.

Despite people like Whalers spit screaming to "Drill, Baby, Drill!" because we're "dependent on foreign oil," it's absolutely NOT true. The US currently drills and produces enough to be energy independent (and have for years, but it's more profitable to sell (part of) our refined flavor of crude oil to other countries and use a grittier/heavier/cheaper Canadian oil to sell to Americans.

And natural gas... No matter what Donnie Two Scoops or Panic at the JD Vance claim, production and exports are already at a maximum. No amount of production or exporting increase can happen because foreign sources buying it are already at capacity.

I really hate having a touch of the 'tism and ADHD because I hyper fixate and learn way more about this sh*t than I really should care about.

Why, you ask, do the oil companies support this if they know all this? Because Fat Nixon promised them sweet, sweet tax cuts. That's why on the last go around for artic drilling leases ZERO companies submitted bids. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. And the only way MAGA is going to learn this is when they get kicked in the head by the horse.

And before anyone mentioned Keystone XL, all that would have done was brought *more* Canadian oil for global sale driving up the price of Canadian oil.

Honest to God, Biden saved y'alls asses on gas prices under the name of environmental concerns.

More Canadian oil for sale cheaply means more people wanting to buy it, meaning the price goes up.

Meanwhile Alaska’s Governor is straight up saying to the Legislature “we don’t need to worry about our budget reserves, because Dump is in office new production will take care of any shortfalls.” Nevermind that any new production will take years to come online and won’t produce new revenue for years after because of tax credits the Governor handed out.

Although the Japanese are apparently interested in investing in an Alaska natural gas pipeline in an effort to curry favor with Dump.

Unelected Elon Musk has locked federal employees out of a database that contains sensitive employee data, social security numbers, and payroll information.

The systems include a vast database called Enterprise Human Resources Integration, which contains dates of birth, Social Security numbers, appraisals, home addresses, pay grades and length of service of government workers, the officials said.
"We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems," one of the officials said. "That is creating great concern. There is no oversight. It creates real cybersecurity and hacking implications."

And, a senior treasury official is quitting because, again, Musk wants access to a payment system used for Social Security, Medicare, and other federal financial services.

The report, citing three people with knowledge of the matter, said Lebryk and Musk's surrogates clashed over access to a sensitive system used to pay out more than $6 trillion a year in Social Security and Medicare benefits as well as federal salaries, government contract payments and tax refunds.

There's some weird shit afoot at the Circle K.

So, the "buyout" (which it isn't) isn't a guarantee. Remember, the House, and little Mikey Johnson, kicked the budget down the road to March. There is *zero* financial guarantee that employees who accept this will get paid beyond March.

I'm really getting sick and tired of this flood the zone defense with so much bullshit. Can one of our resident Republicans drop in quick and say how everything in the last 10 days are *exactly* why they voted for PayLess Putin.

It's not a buyout anyways...it's an exemption to work from home. They can fire you and get away with paying nothing. Same thing Elmo did at Twitter.
