Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

I took Hovey's sage pearls of wisdom, and I talked to my Dump-loving neighbor briefly last night. Merely validated that she's as in the tank for Donald as ever. There goes 10 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

My parents neighbor is wondering when her check is coming from how Donald already removed tax from social security

Speaking of neighbors. I watched one of my fav and most heartbreaking films recently, the Lives of Others. Seems as if talking to your former Nazi neighbors didn’t go so well for some people

Le Monde reporting that a French scientist traveling to Houston to attend a conference was denied entry to US after a search of his phone & computer revealed messages critical of Trump's science cuts, "which [says CPB] conveyed hatred of Trump & could be qualified as terrorism". Yeah, I'd be so excited to come to America for those if I were them. They can get shot, or arrested, or detained at the airport. They could get swept up in an ICE sting. The possibilities are endless.

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s slash-and-burn approach to the US government has thrown federal agencies into disarray, as thousands of civil servants have been dismissed from their jobs without rhyme or reason. But in the chaos of the cuts carried out by Musk’s pseudo-agency, the Department of Government Efficiency, some federal workers say the Trump administration is failing to do even basic offboarding to safeguard sensitive information on their work devices.

The result is a situation that experts warn is leaving civil servants, the people they worked with, and US government security at risk. In direct contradiction of federal guidelines, former employees have been forced to assume responsibility for preventing data leaks that could put local partners or the employees themselves in harm’s way, left with devices that have been all but abandoned by their higher-ups.

One of the agencies is the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which has seen 83 percent of its programs cut by the Trump administration. USAID employees abruptly dismissed by the Trump administration while working outside of the US are still stuck with government-issued computers and phones with no way to safely return them yet, The Verge has learned, and those devices can give them access to work accounts including email.

A few more stories like that spreading around the world and they're going to be giving tickets away. Consider soccer fan demographics. Who among them doesn't have anti-Trump or anti-American political commentary somewhere on their phone, whether it's on social media, in texts, or otherwise? Not many, I'd bet.

And that’s just among the Americans (soccer fandom in this country definitely skews left).

The administration is removing phone support for Soc Security recipients. Making it more difficult for seniors to get their checks. It’s a back door way to cut SS benefits. Horrific. If you know anyone who is impacted, please help them get online to get their benefits approved...
