DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

Any DU fans coming? 14ers? Swami? Come on, Swams, you really should be there.

Wish I could come up and close out the DECC in style. However, I shall be at home cheering on the Pioneers while listening to the soothing voice of DU's play-by-play guy enjoying the comfort of my couch in my warm family room. :)

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

Heck Yeah, You guys could have Champ and Boon go at it, with the Augustana Viking there being the Special Guest referee.

It should be one Hell of a sports weekend in Duluth there. Closing down the DECC, along with the Regional Finals in Football as well. Here's to UMD going 3 for 3 on the weekend.

If only we could ban you from our USCHO threads too........

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

I'd love to see a bigger turnout for teams like DU. Hell, I'd love for the rivalry to be competitive year in and year out because that means the program is not on a roller coaster with some great years mixed in with some horrid ones. But the Gophers will always be our number one rival, regardless of whether the BTHC takes shape. And FWIW, a friend of mine was just barely able to get tix for Saturday's game back when they went on sale.

The bottom line is, unless the team is winning, Duluth has other interests besides Bulldog hockey.
There should be a lot of people this weekend. There is a lot of steam behind this team, and despite not playing against any big draws so far, there were 4500 both nights vs. Providence, 5000 Friday and 5400 Saturday vs. Alaska Anchorage, and 5000 both nights vs. Michigan Tech, despite it being the opening weekend for firearms deer hunting.

UMD is expecting sellouts. Although it is suprising that they haven't sold out already...

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

tickets are pretty much sold out but its a bummer when we open up with the sioux students will be in a small number with no section I think they dropped the ball on that one. But this weekend is going to be a great series with lots of action on both ends of the ice. A home sweep would be a good way to leave the DECC

The Saturday Anchorage game was a sellout. 5233 is capacity and there were 5481 in attendance. The 200 SRO tickets accounts for the greater than capacity in attendance.

Yes I know we sold out a game this year.

I meant that they haven't sold out this weekend weeks ago. :o

But I guess given the less then stellar support the community gives this team sometimes it makes no sense.

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

Is the Decc going to be imploded or just not used for hockey?

I haven't heard anything. They definitely won't be imploding it. Its in the center of a complex.

When Amsoil Arena was approved, I heard the old Arena would be used for high school hockey. But they now have a new high school arena (Heritage Center) and one less HS program. Not sure how they are going to handle the old arena. There are no high school games scheduled at the old arena this year. Everything is at the Heritage Center except for a HS game on Jan. 3rd and sectionals at Amsoil. It will probably be holding a bunch of practices for now.

It will be interesting to see what can be done with 2 arena's connected to each other that seat 5,000+ apiece. I don't know if any in the US that has this setup. World Juniors? The only problem is that the old arena is 10 feet smaller than NHL regulation size.

Oh come on, you're having a good run up there in Duluth, enjoy it a little. I know for sure you could beat D1 Denver U in Football as well. ;):D
Ignore list my friend.
Not when somebody else quotes me.;)

Besides, there are a few other PenaltyBox Members that are already planning on taking in the playoff game. Knowing the reputation of the PB, I would wager that they would have plenty of booze to fortify themselves against the cold for the football game, and after that, most likely a crawl over to Grandma's and then the DECC, to see the old girl off. You can't drink the day away if you don't get started early for it.

Join the Dark Side!!! They have Booze!!! :D

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

I'm sure it will be used for practice and stuff like that when we go on the road since we have an olympic size now right? And this series is going to be a good time to close tDECC out. A hard fought offensive battle

Depends on how much you want to drink.

I hope they use the new arena for UMD's Graduation Ceremony. Mostly becasue I will be the first class to use it. :D

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

I've heard that with three sheets of ice all linked together with the downtown hotels and restaurants via skywalk, it will be a very attractive venue for youth tournaments.

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

No national TV of these games. Local Duluth Channel 9 will be televising the games. No webcast on Pioneer Vision of these games, only audiocast and local Denver radio with Jay.

Re: DU @ tUMD: Adieu to tDECC 12/3-12/4

This is the marquee matchup in the league, and adding in the finale for tDECC it's a shame these games can't be on coast to coast.
