DU Hosts UVM - Oct. 9 & 10 - The 60th Anniversary Edition

Re: DU Hosts UVM - Oct. 9 & 10 - The 60th Anniversary Edition

Wow, you guys were right. I went back & looked up some history on this guy. Adam Murray was way up on the food chain of recruited-goalies. If he continues his development at the college level like he did in the Juniors, this guy is going to be a Superstar. Lalonde & Miller seem to have this processed nailed down. I haven't studied the roster - but Murray has got to be one of the biggest guys on the team.

I am sure the coaching staff probably has the radar on someone to come in when Chevy graduates in 2 years. Wouldn't surprise me to see a top flight goalie commit for 2011 sometime this year. FYI I have no info on who they may be after but for that position you have to make a wise choice and that takes a lot of scouting and finding these guys early.

Re: DU Hosts UVM - Oct. 9 & 10 - The 60th Anniversary Edition

Should be a tough test for UVM. After losing so many points from last years team and early season injuries, I am not all that optimistic about this series, hopefully we can escape with a point or two. It would be nice to get another game under our belt before going to Denver.

UVM is going to need a solid defensive effort, as I don't see them scoring a lot this weekend.

Does anyone know any bars in Burlington/S. Burlington that will be showing the game?

I really like these east/west matchups, the last couple of years we opened with Miami, both series were very entertaining. Does anyone know if Denver will be coming to Burlington for a pair next year?

Haven't heard is DU if reciprocating but they have been doing that the past few years with Notre Dame and OSU. Wouldn't surprise me if Gwoz did a home and home with UVM.

Any sports bar with DirecTV and the Fox Sports Package will have access to the game.

I believe Denver may be going to the Gut at UVM next season.
Don't quote me on that, though...

I'm currently working in a small university town about 60 miles SW of Ft. Worth. I think my chances are pretty slim of convincing some cowboy in my local sports bar to turn one of their TVs to this game. :) Oh well, at least I can watch Saturday's game on my computer.

A well placed $20 bill for the bartender should get him to change his mind. Then order enough food and drink for 10-15 people and you should be just fine.

Anything is possible. 3 years ago I persuaded a manager in a packed sports bar in Detroit to put the DU-Miami season opener on a TV during a Tigers playoff game.

That my friend, is proof positive that you are, and always will be, a Pioneer.

Just as the Mounties always get their man, True Pioneers always get their game on TV at out-of-market sports bars.

I've watched DU hockey games in sports bars and honky tonks in Texas for years and usually someone will come up to you and say, "Hockey cool." Its a great conversation starter.

DU's best best incoming recruit, Freshman Matt Donovan, hails from Oklahoma City. He played in youth hockey for the Dallas Midget Stars so you always have that angle working for you.

As Swami has said, I usually tip the TV guy $10 before he/she changes the channel and it works wonders.

Trivia Question: What state has the most professional hockey teams? (Hint: They have as many professional teams as Canada)

A: Texas (11) - Bonus point if you knew that the Corpus Christi Ice Rays (CHL) were once owned by a DU Alum.

My proudest moment in this respect was watching the '04 NC game in a hotel bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Hey DG, any idea what Direct TV channel carries the game back east? How can I get this information?

Y'all are right--it's probably worth a shot. What's the worst thing that could happen--I miss the game but end up drinking a lot of beer. ;)

Channel 683--it's the same back east as anywhere else. Just make sure you have the Sports Pack. It's like an additional $12 a month as I recall.

Don't kid yourself about Texas..... as it relates to hockey, how many people besides me know where Grapevine Highway and Colleyville Road are? And the town of North Richland Hills? And Blue Line Ice Arena??? The Texas Brahmas are the 2008-09 CHL Champions.... and that's thier home turf! More people know about hockey down there than you might think......

Re: DU Hosts UVM - Oct. 9 & 10 - The 60th Anniversary Edition

Say, with all the buzz surrounding this season, and Boone's appearances this weekend, I'm wondering if there's a possibility for trouble. I mean, have the forward thinkers signed on to having this PC rebuke in Magness? Or is there a chance he'll be cuffed and stuffed? Just curious.

Also wondering about the pep band--in attendance this weekend? But are they still generally not around for hockey because of the $? I read the 5 year plan the other day and it talked about the pep band, again just curious as to what's going on there.

As far as I know, Boone will be admitted to all athletic events and will be allowed to lead cheers and other do spirit stuff within reason. He won't be allowed on the ice, but then again, Ruckus doesn't skate, either. The only game day restriction that I know of is that DU athletes and staff are not allowed to take group photos with him. I think Boone will be fine, as long as he doesn't push the boundaries of good taste.

As for the band, they appeared at about 10 home games last year, on top of all home hoops games for men and women. I think they did well, and I hope they will be around at least that much this year, assuming they enough people and support....
