Drugs Thread I: "Cocaine is God's way of telling you are making too much money.”
So on our trip we stopped in with one of Dr. Mrs.' old friends, the sister of one of her dearest friends who just died last year. She died because she was overdosing and her stupid criminal husband was so effed up on heroin he was afraid to call the hospital because he might get in trouble with the cops. SO he delayed a few hours, and those hours were enough.
But I digress. When we visited this woman seemed vivacious and very together, but very thin. We all talked about the last few years and how her sister had been falling deeper down the drug abuse elevator shaft and how she could not convince her family to help, etc. Anyway, Dr. Mrs had asked me to not mention her thinness (like I would?) because she is sensitive about it, but she brought it up and talked about physician hopping and finally getting diagnosed as having, and I swear I'm not making this up, a gluten allergy. And so on.
We left and I cocked an eyebrow at Dr. Mrs. and she said, "yeah, I assume she was doctor shopping for an affluenza diagnosis," and let it go at that. Later that night we met another old friend of hers at an improv joint in Phoenix and afterwards this and that came up and we mentioned this as funny. And the other friend said, "oh, yeah, she's just hooked on oxy."
And that's the first time I have felt naive in about 25 years, because it absolutely never occurred to me, but in retrospect and given some other stuff the wife filled me in on later, yeah, that is actually rounding plausible and steaming towards likely.
