Drinking Thread: Three Sheets To The Wind

Re: Drinking Thread: Three Sheets To The Wind

I’ve actialy had some good American lagers in the past few years. Merica comes to mind. The one from Modist.

I prefer my beer to have flavor. I've had Merica, and it was good for an American Lager, but the bar is so low for American Lagers, that really doesn't say much.

So, I picked up a couple more Raspberrys and a couple more of The Statement. bb, if you want a raspberry, I can bring another one up. dx, if you want in, I can bring some for you, too. Same price as the meadery.

Sure, I'll take a Raspberry. Thanks!

mel: If you need to unload any extras, I'll take 'em. Don't BUY extras, just if you happen to have any unclaimed bottles.

Excelsior has a dragonfruit milkshake IPA that tastes like a dragonfruit milkshake. It’s phenomenal. I’m not sure bbdl has had raw dragonfruit before else I don’t think he would have tagged on it.

Dragonfruit is NOT sweet. The flavor is absolutely spot on. Delicious.

Also: two new tin signs in three stops! My garage is starting to fill up.

That would be a major step up for Excelsior. I don't mind them, but they are just a beer to me. Nothing wrong with it, but just a beer. Also, many breweries have tried to nail dragonfruit and many come across as "meh" to many people, at best.

So, if this is correct, Excelsior just kicked everyone in the balls with this beer. I'll have to check it out.

Re: Drinking Thread: Three Sheets To The Wind

I’m fairly confident 99% is low. Most people have never touched a dragonfruit ever much less tasted one. And 99.999% haven’t tasted one in the last 12 months.

Guessing more than 1% have tried it, given its availability in heavily populated countries:

It has its origins in Mexico, South America, and Central America, but New World settlers probably brought it to Southeast Asian nations like Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where it remains an important part of the dietary fruit intake. Dragon Fruits are originally from South America.

That beer was terrible, at least the batch I had. It was cloyingly sweet, like an artificial sweetened syrup was added, with a sharp bitterness. It tasted to me like they screwed up the base NE IPA, making it too bitter, or using the wrong types of hops for that style, and they tried to fix it by adding more and more lactose. The issues I had with that beer had nothing to do with dragonfruit, it was just a poorly brewed beer.

fair enough. Maybe I got a different one?

Omni FAD (NE IIPA):

Their tropical milkshake IPA was delicious. Decided to give this one a go. The taste is overly hoppy, although they did get the hazy juicy texture down to a T. I think a tweak or two, and it'd be up there for this style. I give credit on the "Freakin' Awesome Delicious" name, though. Nice play on that.
