Btw...

Andy's Liquor in Rochester, MN is a solid... SOLID store.

Great selection of the higher end stuff. Had their own custom blend of the AE Bourbon as they bought a barrel and had it blended to their specifications on sight. I didn't buy that as I already have a bottle and the whole not really caring for bourbon thing...

Still pretty cool though.
Gonna remember that when I have to head down there for a holiday (have some family down there).

Childhood buddy was visiting last weekend, and we split a bottle of it, since I had an extra. He loved it, and agreed that in a year or two.....hooboy that gonna be good.

Still have two bottles, and it's STILL readily available in stores. That style is apparently not popular.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

How can it not be popular?

I need more.

Byerly's in Ridgedale has about a dozen bottles still. Other stores around me have multiple bottles for sale.

Back to a discussion from a few pages back, up at the tourney when we were out, the first night I had one beer with some pizza and we called it a night early. Had a headache most of the next day.

The next night, I had 4 Gosling/Cokes with dinner (awesome rare sesame encrusted tuna) and 4 Crown/Cokes at the bar and then a pour of the AE rye to end the night. Felt absolutely fine the next day.

Go figure.

Good haul so far this trip. 4 pack of BCS, Central Waters Barrel-Aged stout, Bells Expedition Stout, St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Have drank a BCS, Darkness 2014, and Eight so far.

Thinking about picking up a sixer or two of that Bell's. It's pretty common to find right now.

If it isn't obvious, the above suggestions were trolls. :D
I wasn't trolling. I like Kraken well enough and think it'd be a really good "gateway" rum, in the same way that "craft-y" beers like Blue Moon or Shock Top are a good way for consumers of mass-produced swill to get introduced to better types of products.

Sorry... I didn't even see yours.

I was referencing the Sailor Jerry and Captain references. :)

I don't have much experience in rum. I know I hate Bacardi with a passion. Caption and Sailor are good mixers, and Appleton Estate should not be mixed, IMO, ever. That being said, the stuff that Gurt drinks is better than Appleton (from what I've gathered) and should also not be mixed.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Captain and Sailor are good mixers if you are a college student. They are swill for anyone with taste.

Appleton Estate is a good mixer.

Appleton 12 is worthy of drinking neat.

I don't believe I had the AE 12, but just the Appleton I'd feel guilty using as a mix. And for mix, I only used Coca-Cola, which is a heavy mixer, so the rum didn't really make a huge difference.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Appleton is not worthy of drinking neat unless you go to the 12, which is considered one of the better rums in the world.

Or the 50, but that will set you back $5,000 for a bottle. ;)

If I spend that, it'll be for the Balvenie 40, at 4K last I checked. And I currently have a 6 month window to buy that, b/c the only reason I'd buy that is to drink something older than I am.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

I'd love that Appleton 50 - which is also older than I am.

If I were rich, I'd have it... and treasure it.

I hear ya. Oh, I hear ya. I fawn over 30YO scotches. Can't imagine a 50YO anything.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

It's a legit 50 too. Not a blend or a Solera.

Good God...

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Oh yeah, and ate at Greenbush tonight and they no longer have flights of Pappy listed on the menu, so maybe you got in under the wire. I didn't ask if they are actually available or not - just noticed that it's not on the menu.

You can still get pours, but the menu states 1 per customer for Pappy.

Just an fyi.

BTW, the pizza was to die for - as always.
