Dirty Dream No. 2
Seeing Other People
Re: Does anyone miss CCHA?
Please. The "old ways" were better because the big time Midwest school money was mostly spread evenly over two conferences. This supported a bunch of MAC/D-2 programs and the Alaska schools. When the Big 14 consolidated all that money, that was a huge hit to the bottom lines of the D-2 schools. I'm not convinced that the Alaska schools will be around in 10 years, and maybe Ferris or one of the UP schools will fold. I don't want that.
I want a Division 1 college hockey where small schools who started programs before there was any profit motive have the same opportunity to start and maintain programs as the big schools, and I don't believe we have that. I don't give a shlt if Illinois or Northwestern or USC start programs, they're only being started because a bottom line focused AD thinks they'll be good for the accounting ledger. I care that the UP schools and the Alaska schools have the opportunities to succeed and be somewhat competitive in the standings.
This isn't too much to ask for.
Yes. "The old ways are the best ways."
But I miss the 17-team, 3 division ECAC, so what do I know?
