Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Not that the end result would have changed but in Buff States defense they did play 3 games in 48 hours...

Chatham's freshman class already producing from the net out, matched last seasons win total and doubled last years ECAC win total this weekend!

Tied for first place in the ECAC west too!

Well, Adrian had a Friday night-Saturday afternoon series, then got on the bus Saturday night and did this today. Our girls weren't exactly well-rested, either.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

looking to be a very long year for buff state

Tough to compete with only 16 players on your roster. Buffalo is a hockey town, not sure why they are having trouble getting players. You would think they would tap some of the local talent.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

Local talent playing D-1 I suppose...the Buffy Bisons have been very good for a few years now. Have several very good players who could play most anywhere.

No doubt the Michigan team is heads and tails better, should have won and did win. Maybe the bengals could have made it a little less lopsided with more rest and an extra weekend of games to prepare. IMO Adrian has all the pieces to make some noise this year!

The Chatham team should have a goal to win 8-10 games this season. Disappointing goal for many programs but a great target for this team considering where they have been.. The reality of playing some pretty strong teams in their own league will set in soon enough.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

At the JWHL Playoffs held in Denver 2 years ago I had the pleasure of sitting near Coach Jason Evans from Chatham for a couple of days. I was not familiar with Chatham University so I had no idea what their women's hockey program was like or the history involved at that point. After casual visiting over the course of a couple of days my impressions were as follows: Young, bright, personable, passion for hockey, organized and very proud to be the Coach at Chatham. With these qualities I'm not surprised that the program is starting to show signs of improvement. If my daughter would have had interest in going to school in the Pittsburgh area and been a fit for their school academically and athletically, I would have steered her in that direction.

Chatham's problem over the last several years has not been passion or desire, but purely numbers. They would come into Plattsburgh with barely enough players for two full lines. I've always said that if they could put together a full roster, I'd worry about them. Those young women came to play hard every game I've ever seen them... they just never had the numbers to compete. I haven't looked at this year's roster, but here's hoping their numbers are up. The women deserve it.

Re: Division III score updates - 2013-2014

That's what happens when you hire 'a name' instead of 'a coach!'

Your on the right track with the idea but your target is wrong. At least what is on her resume shows she was ready to make this jump for several reasons. Some other schools even just this past year made some really brutal choices for coaches. Too many ADs are cowards and also do not know what makes for a good hockey coach. Some ADs are likely intensely pressured to make 'quota' style decision and hockey qualifications are very marginally considered.

Buff State is in a great location and needs a minimum of two years to develop a player pipeline that allow the coach get the job done. Any coach hired here had no chance to have any success this year. Give her and the program a little time to develop.

From what I understand, she did not have enough time to recruit anything but leftover players.

Very fair comment. She deserves a chance to build something there. Did hear that although she was at OSU, she didn't do much, pushed pucks, and barely spoke up. Now, granted, this is second hand news, just repeating what was said to me.

Could be on a delayed penalty where the tender went to the bench, and her teammate misplayed it back into the net.
