Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

In short: It is not how big you are, but how big you play. Some small players are capable of playing big. Others are not.

Well, sure, if you don't prefer the 500 word version :). I'd add "and fewer and fewer small players are able to be successful at the Division 1 level" to the short version.

When I wrote this, I actually had a line that said "please don't list the 10 men's players under 5'9" that are impact players" but took it out - I'm now regretting it. There are approximately 1500 men Division 1 players - few of significance are 5'9" or under (I could have gone even shorter to be more consistent with 5'0" in womens hockey but that ship sailed). There are always a few exceptions.

Just look at the men's game - how many 6'+, 220lb players were there 10 years ago? Way fewer than there are now, where most of the Division 1 players fall into that size range.

Few of significance are 220 pounds though as you suggested. The average weight of the top 10 scorers in nationally is 185, with one kid at exactly 200. The average of the top 10 in Hockey East is 176, with one kid at 210.

I stand corrected ...

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Anyone know if Maddie Carras is committed anywhere yet?

Does she play anywhere other than BSM? Looks like she made the final group for NDC tryouts at least once, but based on the little I could find on her it seems like you are more likely to see her on the D3 list....also - it says she is a 2013 graduate on the mngirlshockeyhub website so she would be on the 2013-2014 list if she were a D1 player.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

I really like the direction Wisconsin is going! I saw Taylor play a bunch at NSA -- great player, and a nice finisher when she drives to the net. 3 great verbal commitments for UW -- Rolfes, Wellhausen, and Ciafarano were all on the U-18 USA Team that played in Finland at the World Championships a couple of months ago. I believe Cianfarano and Wellhausen were on the same line for most of the tournament in fact...

She lived in Mass. before she moved to Minnesota, so I haven't seen her for years. I know she still plays but I was just curious. She could have another sport she plays but that's just me thinking out loud. I figure if she's committed somewhere we will hear, I was just curious.
