DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

The same kind of support was thrown behind Klingensmith last week, and look what happened.

Here's a guy who has allowed 1 goal in his last 4 games (the Stout goal was let in by the Freshman backup who was getting a little ice time after NU went way up on Stout) Klinger deserves some acclaim here!

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Unbelievable!!!

Has anyone ever done that before?

A short handed hat trick - 2 unassisted - against a 4-5-0 team (now 5-6-0), granted they weren't Adrian, but they weren't Concordia (WI) either

Agreed. He certainly deserves credit for his great play. But it's Player of the Week, not last two weeks.

Now I know that he gave up zero goals this last weekend against some good competition, but goalies get shutouts every week. Granted, two in one weekend is that much more impressive and I don't know the last time a goalie has done it, but it was certainly before the last time a player had 3 Shorthanded goals in one game.

Musselwhite may have done something that no one has ever done before in D-III hockey history. How can he not be POTW?

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Neil Musselwhite all the way. 3 short handed goals in 3 minutes as well as an even strength against the number 6 goalie in the conference. Not to mention another goal against the number 4 goalie in conference, and an assist in the Geneseo game. He's been on fire lately, and while it may be his last season, this is looking like his breakout year.

Can''t be any further back than Kyle Jones against Norwich and Plattsburgh in Lake Placid 2008... now THAT was impressive

It's possible that kinda hurts our argument if you say that he did it against the #6 goalie in the conference, don't you think? After all, 6 out of 9 starting goalies (even tho some schools don't have a set starter, i.e. Plattsburgh) isn't that good for Sheridan to be. Personally, I don't think it takes away from what Neil did, as people haven't scored three shorties against the worst D3 goalie.

What are you basing Sheridan and Rubenik's rankings on? SV%? GAA? Opinion?

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

So, here's our list:

Code:
[B]Neil Musselwhite (OSW)[/B], 2 games, 5-1-6, 0 GWG, 0 PIM, SHx3, Nat. HT
[B]Dan Wieniger (BOW)[/B], 2 games, 3-2-5, 0 GWG, 0 PIM, HT
[B]Ryan Klingensmith (NRW)[/B], 2 games, 48 saves, 1.000 sv%, 0.00 GAA, SOx2
[B]Scott Barchard (TUF)[/B], 2 games, 115 saves, 0.966 sv%, 1.92 GAA

we're still in need of a defenseman for this week. Unless someone finds another defenseman who deserves it more, I nominate:

Kyle Shearer-Hardy (BOW), 2 games, 2-1-3, 1 GWG, 1 PIM, GWG in 1-0 game

I'll nominate Bowdoin frosh Dan Weiniger based on his 3-3-6 weekend and his central role in Bowdoin's sweep of Castleton and Skidmore. He set up the lone goal in Friday's 1-0 victory over Skidmore and was in on 5 of Bowdoin's 7 goals versus Castleton (a HT and 2 helpers).

The stats sheet credits that goal as Shearer-Hardy from Sisson and Toczylowski. I've included him on the list above without that assist.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Fun night last night in Framingham.

Framingham High had the slot before the game. Don't ask me what happened, but the Vikings did not get into the locker room until 45 minutes before game time.

Warm-up was 5 minutes. Then a zam. Then right to the game. No introductions, no anthem.

Bullhockey!

Was there at least a bench minor on Framingham for protocol violation?

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Not to discredit Klingensmith...on any other week I think he would have won, but what Musselwhite did was incredible. I wish I would have seen it!

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 11/30-12/6

Nathaniel or (Nate)...can I call you Nate?

If you're up for it. I think it'd be cool if we ran a Poster Player of the Year poll too at the end of the year. It could either be done by the same process with nominations or just vote on the people that have won the player of the week's throughout the year.

What do you think?

Or even take it a step further and instead of an All-America team, could do an All-Posters team!

I'd be willing to do both. End of the season comes at a decent time in my school schedule, so no problem!

I definitely think the POTY would probably have to be a poll of all the POTW winners, it just seems like the fairest way.

As for the All-Posters' Team: Like I said in the first week's nomination thread, I'll be doing the POTWs through the regular season and conference tournaments. What I'll do, then, is open nominations for the All-Posters' team (each person nominating up to 1 for each position, F, D, or G) the night of the last conference final, and have that due the Wednesday before Lake Placid. I'll start a poll for the 3 positions, top 3 Fs, top 2 Ds, and top G get it. Each poll will allow the voter to cast as many votes as there are spots for that position on the All-Posters' Team, and I'll have the poll close on Monday night after the Lake Placid DIII Tournament finals. It seems fair to me, wouldn't you agree?

And yes Derek, Nate is actually what I prefer to be called.

I don't think the POTY should have to come from the POTW winners...The best player throughout the year might be the most consistent and put up big numbers for the year, but not have the one huge week that gets him the POTW. No disrespect to Neil Musselwhite (who looks like he will in this week), but I do not think he would/should be in the running for POTY.

I think it should be set up just like the POTY where people nominate/make their case for a player and then put it to a vote!

BUT we should do it like the electoral college based on attendance...Utica & Oswego voters get the most electoral college votes! ha ok ok just kidding...

I agree with this point 100%. He beat me to the punch by posting it.
