DIII Next year

I realize there are still a few weeks to go this year with conference playoffs and then the NCAA’s, but does anyone know what is happening next year? Will the NEHC still exist? What happens to teams like Salve, who left the CNE (CCC) for the greener pastures on the NEHC? Is the UCHC now the E8? I know the Little East will field a conference (I think?) but what about MASCAC?

OK, I’m too dizzy to go on! Anyone have any knowledge on this?

This isn't even mentioning the skill increase with the CHL ruling! D3 men's hockey will be absolute chaos in 25-26, and I'm here for it.

CHL can only go to D1. The fallout from that could boost the upper D3 teams. The fallout from that could boost the middle tier D3 and the fallout from that could boost the lower tier D3.

It all depends on the financial aid.

I know that. I'm talking about the skill increase as a result of borderline D1 players that will play D3 because of their roster spots being taken away by CHL players.

Couldn’t be more excited for the LEC to kick off next year. Number of existing rivalries will carry over while some historical ECAC Northeast (and older) matchups will be renewed. West Conn will have a new program, Keene will get conference play, Norwich and Babson will matchup against Plymouth… etc etc lot of possible storylines for next year.

Regular games between Plymouth, NEC, and Keene are going to be chaotic with some deep rivalry between the schools (or maybe just with Plymouth lol). Would love to see a New Hampshire D3 cup/tournament between the three plus Rivier.

I am looking forward to the trickle down. We might even get back to the early 90s level of play. Joe Spinelli, Bernie Cassell, Scott Burfoot.

So, here's something that's very interesting.

I had one D3 coach tell me that in two years, the skill level of D3 will be exponientially better. Basically, what you're saying.

However, I heard another D3 coach tell me that he believes many of these D1 players who will be "forced" down to D3 because of the influx of the CHL players will decide to go to Canadian universities instead. He never explained why he thought that, but I found that opinion very interesting.

While I hope these borderline players continue to play NCAA D3, I wouldn't be surprised to see a considerable portion of these players go to large D1 clubs teams i.e. Arizona, UNLV, Bama instead of D3.

Also, with CHL players coming in, do we think NCAA reconsiders mandatory full face masks?

Not sure how much athletic scholarships the fringe d1 guys get (I would imagine not much) But those d3 "merit" scholarships (that athletes totally dont get preference on) do give them a leg up on the clubs who often charge yearly dues in the 4 digit range (oswegos club team is like 3k a year i can only imagine UNLV's). Im sure some fringe d1 guys also have pro dreams and d3 gives u much better odds of being successful in said leagues than the club teams those guys are get lucky if someone gets a fed tryout.

Interesting point. Occasionally we do now see good, even D1 level, players take these options.

Never. It's a liability/insurance issue.
