Definitely a bit of conference-shuffling the last few days... Hobart announces they're moving to the NEHC (but William Smith is staying put in the UCHC for the women)... Johnson & Wales and Suffolk moving to the NEHC for Men and Women... Salem State moving to the NEHC for Women only... and now Salve Regina and UNE join the CHC.

As of right now, the 2018-19, barring any further announcements, looks like this for the women:

Who wins with all these changes? Who loses?

The whole NESCAC wins, unfortunatley. NCHA stays status quo thus wins by most others losing.

Platty, Oswego, Elmira, Utica Lose big! Perhaps Elmira & Utica more because they have 10 teams in their conference and won't have many games to play outside the conference.

MIAC, NEHC &Wiac stay same.

Does Canton & Morrisville move the SUNYAC? It appears that the women do not have to follow the men.

Aurora, Northland, Trine added to NCHA in '17-'18 season.

Elmira loses in a very big way by joining a terrible conference that won't be competitive for years if ever, besides Utica. They're going to have 16 of 18 conference games that will be no-contest. They better hang on to teams like Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Norwich, etc for their 7 non-conference games.

I'm still saying, watch out for the MAC. I see this conference forming within the next two years at most.

Those teams are Manhattanville, Stevenson, Wilkes, Kings and Lebanon Valley. They get another team or two, or add associate members, watch out....

Watch out for what?! None of the big dogs are worried about any of those programs in any way. M'ville is the only team you could consider among the medium dogs. The rest are not going to be contenders for anything.

totally agree....all they've done is dilute the talent pool so that more week teams get in. I'd rather see more 'at large' bids instead of giving auto-bids to all these weak sisters...makes no sense assuming you want the best teams playing at the end of the year.

You're missing my point. I'm not talking about the presumed competitiveness of the conference. I'm saying if the MAC forms, the UCHC will no longer have an autobid OR even get an autobid if they don't meet the minimum two-year waiting period with the needed number of teams.

So that means Elmira, Utica etc. will have left the old ECAC West and now could potentially be facing the fact they lost an autobid or lose one quickly if/when the MAC forms.

I agree 100%!

If you have the grades, the NESCAC will be the best conference for balance between top and bottom. Where do you go if you aren't a NESCAC student and you want competitive play? This will be a hard decision for the D1 Bubble player... if you look at just hockey. That type of player doesn't want to pound up on teams like Northland, Nichols & Finlandia, for a large portion of their games.

I agree. I think Plattsburgh should drop them from any OOC games for a while to prove that point. They can make up some SOS (though there would be some drop) against some of the NESCAC schools. Why should Plattsburgh allow Elmira the benefit of SOS rating when Elmira yanked the autobid?

My understanding is the coaches do the OOC scheduling, that's why they have that open games message board on the coaching association site. I'm sure ADs get involved if it's unusual travel or if they're really hands on.

If Plattsburgh refuses to play them OOC it will hurt both of their SOS, and Plattsburgh may find the shoe on the other foot if the ECAC West/SUNYAC doesn't find two teams to keep the auto bid.

I would imagine the remaining SUNY/ECAC West teams will do at minimum three conferences games vs. everyone else or four. 3 makes for 12 conference games and 4 makes for 16. Finding 13 non-conference games might be pretty tough so it will likely be the four games vs. everyone and find 9 non-conference games.

Plattsburgh up 2-0 on Cortland early in the 2nd. Lipson just scored. Abbott in goal for Plattsburgh on game 1, which is unusual as usually the second game is the rest game. Maybe she's in for both?

EDIT: Sheeran makes it 3-0 in the 2nd.

Plattsburgh with a 2-1 ration on the "puck drops" as the student announcers for Cortland keep calling them.

Edit 2: Plattsburgh adds 5 in the second to make 6-0 Cards after 2. Sheeran with the hat trick, Meneghin with 4 assists.

Does anyone know what happened in the St. Norbert-Adrian game when the score sheet talks of an Adrian bench penalty for too many players and a penalty shot?
