DIII game notes

Re: DIII game notes

Sheeran scores her 2nd of the game on the Power Play assisted by Lipson and Meneghin. 4-0 Plattsburgh with 11:47 left in the second.

Edit: Plattsburgh D just swarmed their former teammate Olivia Fox to prevent her from getting a shot off. Welcome back East!

Re: DIII game notes

Adrian has been throwing out hits behind the play and running the goalie all game. Plattsburgh just had Sheeran limp off the ice, and Ames had to be helped off the ice 0:30 later.

4-0 Plattsburgh after 2. Plattsburgh will start the 2nd on a 5x3 Powerplay (1:23 left on the trip on Sheeran, and a fresh 5:00 major for the hit on Ames behind the play... which was the first of those behind-the-play hits they called all game)

5-0 final score.

Almost a full period worth of penalty minutes for Adrian. Typical. Hard to be competitive when you have almost twice as many penalty minutes as your opponent especially when that opponent is the #1 team in the nation. This game was never in doubt. Plattsburgh looked like a well oiled machine.

Re: DIII game notes

5-0 final score.

100% did not expect that score. Thought it would be a closer contest, but with the penalty factor and Plattsburgh capitalization abilities, you cannot fight that off. 19 minutes down a man against the number 1 team in the country is not a good way to hedge your bets. Adrian's PK numbers are their weakest category statistically and unfortunately held true again. I think this Adrian team will be able to tighten it up and become a power as the season progresses. I expect to see a different team come playoffs, they have the skill and the scorers, just need time to gel. Should make for an interesting second half!

Now it comes down to the true Cardinal/Panther Classic matchup, what a way to end it! Panthers in the comfort of their own home on a big sheet. Middlebury's first shot at a top 10 opponent as well as Plattsburgh's first time facing off against a top 10 team on the other teams home ice. Can 4:00 be here already?!

I said the loss to Oswego would be a good wake-up call for Plattsburgh. Yesterday they looked like a team that was sending a message to everyone and that message is they don't intend to make the same mistakes anymore that they made in the early part of the season. Today's game should be a good one. Going into the weekend I said Midd would win two games but now I'm not so sure. As far as Adrian goes I don't agree with you at all. They have had the same weakness under this coach since he got there and that is an undisciplined overly aggressive style of play that ends up with them spending too much time in the sin bin. He also doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of his players as some coaches do so I don't see this team becoming different/better as the season progresses and definitely not a power. I guess they are a power in that conference but that's not saying much. At the same time Plattsburgh can't consider themselves a power based on their conference results either but they can based on their proven history over the years in big games against other top 5 teams. After the top 5 teams there's really not a lot of competition out there for them. Like I said before, that has to be pretty boring for them.

Re: DIII game notes

Adrian is up 3-0 over Utica midway through the 2nd.

Edit: Utica makes it 3-1 and then in the next shift takes a goalie interference penalty when a player crashes into Adrian G Walsh.

Edit 2: Utica kills off the penalty and gets two of their own and make it 3-2 in the waning seconds of a 5 on 3 power play. They get back on the 5 on 3 as Walsh whacked a Utica player after the goal. We're in the last minute of the 2nd.

Edit 3: End of the the 2nd Adrian holding on 3-2. Utica with 27 seconds left on the power play to start the 3rd.

Edit 4: With 12 mins left in the 3rd, each team added a goal, 4-3 Adrian.

Edit 5: Adrian holds on to win 4-3 after over a minute of defending the extra skater. Both teams were very undisciplined in this game, but when it was even I thought Adrian looked the stronger squad, no surprise there.

Context: The player who was the victim of Walsh's penalty was Schnepp, who was the player who had the nasty run into Walsh a few minutes earlier, and had just got the assist in the 2nd Utica goal. But Walsh was lucky not to be ejected, IMO. She didn't "whack" Schnepp, she grabbed Schnepp and threw her to the ice and then got in top of her and threw what looked to me like a half-hearted punch.

Wow. See I was in another browser tab at that point and was going off the description of the NSN announcer and he said that Walsh simply whacked her after the goal.

Re: DIII game notes

Plattsburgh draws first blood at 19:04 in the 1st. Meneghin scores.

Edit: The NSN announcer keeps emphasizing all the All-Americans at the Panther/Cardinal Classic but I haven't heard him mention Megan Crandell's 2nd team honors with SNC in 14-15. I think it should still count...

Edit 2: Middlebury PPG waved off for a high stick. Still 1-0 Plattsburgh with 9 mins left.

Edit 3: End of 1, Plattsburgh still up 1-0. Middlebury leads in shots 7-4. And in the NSN announcers rush to add Bill Mandigo's NCAA titles and AWHCA titles together he subtracted one of Plattsburgh's titles while doing his coaching comparison...

Re: DIII game notes

2-0 Plattsburgh on a Sheeran goal from a backhanded pass through the crease by Songin. 9:11 left.

Edit: Plattsburgh still up 2-0 at the end of 2 but will be on the PK to start the 3rd. Midd still up on shots 15-10. Plattsburgh with an atypical 5 penalties in the first 2 periods.

Re: DIII game notes

What is with all the penalties in Middlebury?

UC v Midd 13 for the game
Platt v Adrian 13 for the game
UC v Adrian 17 for the game
Platt v Adrian I think 8 through 2 periods

Re: DIII game notes

Watching these Middlebury/ Platt Tournament games is painful with all the penalties. Really had to judge the teams with all of these penalties and the big ice surface

Seems to be some home cooking for Midd from the Refs

Re: DIII game notes

Winslow scores with 8 seconds left in a 5 on 3. 2-1 Plattsburgh.

Edit: Plattsburgh finishes it off with a 2-1 win over Middlebury and win the Panther-Cardinal Classic

Re: DIII game notes

2-1 final. Has to be one of the great games. Well played no cheap stuff lots of action.

Really?!

Both of these teams are beatable. I don't think they will win the NESCAC. Only a one line team.

Penalties against for the Tourney:

Platt 12 for 24 min
Adrian 16 for 35 min
Utica 17 for 34 min
Midd 7 for 14min Hmmm...

Wi River Falls needs more love on this board

Big tilt between Norwich and Elmira on Saturday too.

When you play at Middleburg, you must beat them...AND the refs....happens most every game...lots of phantom calls, Mandy works the refs and cries, and the players seem to be instructed to dive...adds up to lots of PP time. At 5on5 Platty was the better team.

Re: DIII game notes

So let me see if I have this straight... Middlebury moves up in losing to Plattsburgh while Adrian drops down for having the same weekend? I know the scores of the Plattsburgh games was 5-0 and 2-1, but Middlebury got to play Plattsburgh at home, while Adrian had a little bit of travel for the game. Maybe the westerners claiming bias all this years are actually onto something...
