DIII game notes

Re: DIII game notes

Can I get an amen?! Leonard 18 shots on goal and 3 goals against. Sheeran minus 1. Seems Platt isn't that deep.

Can't imagine Platty is the least bit concerned with this loss. By looking at the shots it doesn't seem like either of these two games were very close.

Agree. Looks like Oswego got very lucky in a very short span in the 3rd period and caught Plattsburgh off guard and to their credit Oswego capitalized. This loss will only make Plattsburgh stronger and more determined to reach their ultimate goal. The pressure of an undefeated season is off their backs. I feel sorry for their next opponent. Has anyone else in that conference besides Utica ever beaten Plattsburgh before? Or Elmira?

Shots are great, but when you're not scoring and goaltending is subpar....

2016-2017
3.86 goals for
1.29 goals against

48.0 shots for
18.7 shots against

2015-2016
5.50 goals for
0.73 goals against

45.1 shots for
17.7 shots against

So getting more shots and 1.64 fewer goals...you're going to get every teams best game. It's up to Plattsburgh to meet that same level of emotion. After winning so much, maybe a wake up call is needed to be more focused. The effort is there in the shot column, but I wonder about the mental toughness at this point....and goaltending

Re: DIII game notes

I'll take a good goalie, puck possession and shots over a team that benefitted from their goalie standing on her head any day.

Re: DIII game notes

First off, congrats to the ladies on the Oswego team on a hard-fought win.

I'm wondering what this does to the polls. Both #1 and #2 in Plattsburgh and UWRF fell in upsets this weekend to 5-1. Elmira and Adrian are now 6-0 and while Adrian has defeated one ranked team, Elmira has yet to play one. Considering the split in the Plattsburgh series I don't think it would be fair to rank them below both of those teams.

I would put it at:

1) Adrian
2) Plattsburgh
3) Elmira
4) UWRF
5) Middlebury
6) Norwich
7) Oswego
8) Lake Forest
9) Augsburg (Good split vs the Gusties)
10) Connecticut College (Swept #7 Amherst)

Amherst got swept and St. Thomas had a loss and a tie this weekend so they go from the lower end to outside of my poll.

I am thinking the poll could be:
1) Adrian
2) Plattsburgh
3) Wisconsin-River Falls
4) Elmira
5) Middlebury
6) Norwich
7) Lake Forest
8) Connecticut College
9) Oswego
10) Augsburg

That's the point. Plattsburgh shouldn't have these issues againat teams like William and Smith and even really Oswego. Running into a "hot" goaltender should only happen once or maybe twice a year. Too much talent to not be burying goals against these teams. I'm not challenging their talent. Plattsburgh is probably by far the best team in the East and probably overall, but you can't keep putting up nearly 50 shots a game and only getting 3.86 goals a game. There is a 2.20 goal difference this year compared to last. Scoring less, giving up more...bad combination. It use to be if you gave up 1 goal to Plattsburgh you were probably done. When you have to come back to beat William Smith, come back to beat Neumann and fall apart in the third to Oswego....close against Norwich I can see...WS and Neumann are NOT Elmira, Adrian, Middlebury, Amherst...if you're having a hard time against them, for whatever reason, games like Oswego will continue to happen. Plattsburgh has averaged 7.6 goals a game vs Neumann and WS over thenpast 3 seasons, giving up 0.5, and Plattsburgh gave up 3 goals to Oswego Sunday....they have up 3 goals to Oswego over the past 3 seasons...combined. Again, its not talent we all know its their, but if they keep playing to the level of their opponent and letting teams stick around this won't be their only loss.

I believe Neumann has beaten one or both before. Potsdam or Buffalo State may have beaten Elmira before too I think.

Re: DIII game notes

I think I got them all...

Bowdoin 2 L
Manhattanville 1 L - 3 T
Gustavus 1 L - 1 T

More simply from my viewpoint: goal scoring down + more questionable goaltending = more losses. To date, Plattsburgh isn't the same team they have been over the past 3 seasons. That could easily change, but the starting trend isn't great.

Technically, Plattsburgh didn't lose the #1 spot in either ranking (they just have to share it in one set)!

In all seriousness, a loss to Oswego hurts, but it's just one loss in November. We will have a MUCH better idea of where teams stand after this weekend: Elmira v Norwich, Plattsburgh v Adrian - all on Saturday. Then Plattsburgh/Adrian each either playing Midd or Utica on Sunday. Should be a good weekend of hockey!

Re: DIII game notes

Tied 2-2....GOALTENDING...for Plattsburgh needs work (although one Spartan goal was on a breakaway)....only 3 Castelton shots. Now 3-2 Plattsburgh and video lost again !
