Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

So, did anyone else here run on Bayside this morning?

I was the one in the Michigan shirt.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Update: I have to wear a belt with 2 pairs of jeans that I own. Even better is that I have tightened the belt by one notch. The wonders of walking paths and nice weather.

Excellent! Keep it up and soon you'll be buying new pants.

And I just signed up for two more races this summer. Here's hoping I don't get injured.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

We heard yesterday that the organizers are offering a year deferrment to interested runners, thanks to the heat they expect to have today. Holy cow.

I've heard that, too. I've also heard some people are angry they're doing that because it potentially limits the number of open spots for 2013.

Race on- they have sreaming coverage at universalsports.com. They are currently covering the women, and most of the comments are that the current 78F is keeping the pace pretty slow- over 6 min miles right now. More strategic than fast. The men they are showing now look pretty uncomfortable as well....

They *might* finish before it gets too hot, but I suspect that with the late start of the rest of the runners, it will be pretty miserable to do 26.2 miles at 90F. I can fathom running in it- we normally run at ~80F when we are down in Puerto Rico. It sucks, bad. It seems as if every 10 deg over 75 adds 10 BPM to my heart. So a normal pace will put me very close to my absolute limit. Takes me a LOOOOONG time to recover from just a 10k when it's 85.

Almost 4400 people deferred. And the winning times of 2:12 Men and 2:31 for women were some of the slowest. Hot, hot, hot....

Thankfully, no medical issues more than a normal marathon....

We had it going in the backroom at work, and I was tracking a couple runners I knew online. Slow times, but they both finished alive.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

So, fun trick I finally got to try out tonight:
Step 1: freeze a few sliced bananas.
Step 2: Place some of said frozen bananas in food processor.
Step 3: Blend until smooth and creamy
Step 4: Place in container, freeze additional 15-20 min
Step 5: Om nom nom. Same consistency of soft serve. Defreakinglicious.

May very well steal this.

TCBG just made this 2 nights ago. He added a little bit of peanut butter as well. He loved it (I did not, but then again, I don't like bananas).

Going to have to try this out for myself!

There has to be a better option than Clif bars for a prerun snack. I know last year, I made my own granola bars, but I can't find the recipe.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2012: Push It.

Fun morning workout today, started off with a timed mile (6:23), then did situps on an incline with a 30 pound weight on the chest for a minute, pushups for a minute, dips for a minute, then burpees for a minute. Repeat to the dips, then do a nice piggyback run with a partner (~190lbs) across a soccer field a total of 3 times. Do one round of the situp to burpee circuit, onto a second timed mile (6:42). Just for fun another situp to burpee circuit (flat situps though!). And finish with a 3rd timed mile (6:29). Come home to run the dogs for 20 minutes. And done.

I think I've earned the carnitas tacos I'm about to scarf down.
