Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

Always up and down.... After the two good, hot runs, my ancle decides to protest... Hope I can run again tomorrow- too much food available.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

Both diet and exercise is out the window right now... I have a project at work that's overwhelming me that's taking up all my time and mental capacity...... so I have to bite the bullet and grind out this project... after that... no more of this... I can't take the work grind on these projects... too taxing... I'm not going to quit... don't get me wrong... but i can't take these demanding projects and keep myself sane and healthy when I don't have anything at home to regulate that stress (read as no girlfriend/wife).

I'm just disappointed that the things i need to get done professionally are coming very hard and difficult and the things i need to do with getting into shape have to take a back seat... double whammy. I can't keep up like this forever otherwise I'll just run myself into the ground... I can't do that. So, if I get past this project and I just chum along professionally at a slower rate then that's exactly what I'll do... this level of stress is leading to poor eating and leading to a terrible exercise mind frame.

Its tough having to work so hard to establish your capabilities... they seem to ask so much for so little around here. :(

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

welcome to America bro. The trend in this economy is more work for less pay. One of my friends life epitomizes this; he's been putting in 50 hour weeks, and got a 20% pay cut.

Just push through it. Your numbers were pretty sick and time off might actually help in the long run. the ebbs and flows of working out become second nature after a while. Last week I did 10x8x6 squats and put up 265 for 6, probably could do more next week. Maybe a 300 lb 6 is in the future, and a 1 rep of 350+ Who knows?? This after a sub par winter, and a nagging back injury. Feeling good, looking good, and lifting good. This after feeling like crap 2 months ago. ( a lot of that has to do with being unemployed than, and employed now).

Another plus about new england is the overabundance of summer street hockey. If I party in boston, street hockey. There are leagues in nashua, manchester, and portsmouth! Going to be good to not have an off season this year!!

This is more federal insanity... I know the job market out there is iffy... its more the ins and outs of the reward mechanisms at work. This would be dumb regardless of economy... its just more annoying because I can't just find somewhere else to go.... so I expect no tears, my paycheck is safe... but the standards are warped. We're elevated based on publication but we're given projects which lead to production and not papers.... which is the nature of internal consulting... again, its not the market... the priority structure. I can't begin to attack the market until I get something significant done... this project is that ticket.

I know this has turned into a job gripe session... but the pressures of hitting certain marks in life are hitting me.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

Officially hit 200 miles for the year. :D
Awesome!

I'm looking to run 12-13 miles on Saturday and reach 15 by mid-April, then taper for the Fifth-Third 25K in May. Another thing I'm doing differently this year is that I'm treating the Fifth-Third as a training run, rather than dumping all my energy into it and then having to recover for the Seaway run in June.

No worries bro. actually I don't feel a discussion on work is a diversion from this conversation as the balance between work, goal progression and working out are very interconnected. You work 100 hours a week and can't get by, don't expect to be in as good of shape as someone who is working 40, earnign great pay and has their priorities worked out.

From what I understand, it seems like you just started, so the first few years is getting your bearings and understanding your industry ( federal, but not sure beyond that). As someone who has seen first hand the effect of over working can do, its always good to keep in the back of your mind that you should never sacrifice your health on the long term for anything. Becasue when it happens, it will happen quickly and before you think it will. Sure , in the short term you might have to bite the bullet, but if its a year long recurring thing, than you might opt to analyze your situation and consider options. Not trying to be a life coach, just trying to make sure I have someone who can hit a 400 lb squat with me when the time comes :D

Anyway i hope you figure it out and start back up on yoru routine.

you are insane. I guess its a good insane, but insane none the less.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

Has anybody used TRX Suspension training? I'm pretty happy with P90X and body weight exercises, so the GF decided she thought I could use this too, and it's on its way.

Got about 10 minutes into my run this morning when my right knee decided to protest. Wound up limping home, then going to the gym to ride the bike.

CC to those attending the Frozen Four:
Are we still thinking of doing a group run on Saturday morning?

I was going to ask the same thing. What time, where, and how far?

The posters game starts at noon, and I AM playing, so it needs to be pretty early- say 7-8am, and I would hope it can be downtown.

As for distance, 4-6 miles would be fine if it stays cool.

I have a 10 planned for that day, I can always make up the distance or flip-flop my schedule. No big dea.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2011: Better Than This.

I went to a Ringside class at my gym last night and it was ****ing awesome. I've taken kickboxing-type stuff before, but never really got to hit anyone or anything (it's MUCH less satisfying that way). With this class, we get to beat the crap out of the punching bag-things (they aren't really "bags"). I needed a change of pace and I LOVED it. Great workout, too.

On a second note- 'diva- I can't rep you again (I don't do enough..) shoot me an e-mail- alfablue (dot) uscho (at) gmail (dot) com.

Actually- if ANYONE is interested in a group run- shoot me an e-mail. I don't know where, when, or how long, but I'll do my best to corral the cats....

By surface streets it's probably about 10 miles from downtown St. Paul to the Augsburg rink - just find a ride back. :)

And bring a gun if you take University the whole way :)
