Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

That explains some of the results I've seen. Some of my friends REALLY struggled on Sunday. WAY beyond what I expected.

It was actually very similar (weather wise) that happened 3 years ago. Started out nice, but then a couple of hours in it just got real hot, I think it ended up in the 90's. The difference is the race officals are prepared for it, so they had sprayers out, plenty of water, etc etc. So despite the weather there were a record number of finishers and I think the women's top prize was even a record (but the elite all finished before it started to get hot).

I am picking out my races for next year now :)

Bob-
Good luck this weekend. stay calm, start slow.

it looks like it will be reasonably cool this weekend- the race should start close to 50F, and should finish before it hits 60.

be sure to enjoy the view as you cross the bridge!!!

Actually- try to focus on enjoying the run- that way you know you are not running too hard.
Thanks, alfa! I just think of long runs as cooking a pot roast; don't rush it, don't act like I'm in a hurry... just take my time and soak it all in. Also, I do not need to shotgun 40 oz of coffee just before the race. Did that in May and ran the worst race of my life...

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

Training is done, I've done all I can do for now. Nothing left to do now but make it to Detroit, pick up my race number, and line up on Sunday.

Is there a specific way that it's appropriate to wish a distance runner luck? I'm pretty sure it isn't "break a leg". :p

The best ways are short and sweet. Today alone I've heard good luck, best of luck, go Bob go, and make it happen.

2 things....

1. Anyone in here take any of the Les Mills classes (BodyPump, RPM....ect...)

2. Did anyone on here do "Warrior Dash" last year?

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

So my trainer did out the numbers and if I were to be at 0% body fat, I'd have to drop to 198lbs. Reason against BMI... it says I should be 180 which as us math majors know, 180<198, and therefore, I'd be in the negatives when it comes to body fat. To get to my goal of around 13% body fat, I'd have to lose 43lbs or so, which would put me at 233lbs. Hoping I can get there in approximately 6 months or so. Today was a 30 minute ab buster workout, followed by a 30 minute kettle bell workout where all the exercised were done for time instead of reps to increase cardio. I'm sore...

Great job setting goals! Try doing some classes as well. If you want a total body workout, try a Body Pump class. It is a Barbell class that works all of the muscle groups. Also, spin classes are great for cardio. I take both and I'm in better shape now than I have been in 6 or 7 years...it helps that I work in the industry. ;)

Definitely bring variety in so that your body doesn't get too used to the workouts and so you don't get bored.

That 0% body fat seems like a good goal to reach for. ;) :)
Yeah, BMI is so sketchy, I'm not surprised that it produced that wacky of a result.

I don't even track my BMI....just body fat and my weight. Mine is at 17% at the moment - borderline between average and fit. My weight is sound at 175lbs. Lost about 15lbs this year when I commited myself to being more fit. I had to be in the job that I am in.

No work out tomorrow - running Red Rocks on Saturday morning.

yeah, I think 0% is the goal we should all have. :D

Seriously, BMI is so *king worthless. It's a good guide to get someone started who is morbidly obese, but there's so many other factors that go into it.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

"Zero % body fat"? Isn't that basically fatal? I recall reading that anything below 3-4% can cause serious problems. Then again, how it's measured may be a determining factor, and BMI isn't the most accurate measure.

Even with someone morbidly obese, its best to keep things simple and not throw in complicated figures.

Like the wind, Bob - be it a cool breeze or gale force.

Confirmed BOB SIGHTING!!! Didn't expect to see him, but we went to the expo to get our shirts even though we are not running- and who do I see on our way out? Bob!!!

If he runs as relaxed as he seems, he'll be good to go!

Great to meet you, bob!

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010, pt. 2: Never Going Back

I didn't put in an update for last month... nothing much to update... no new records... more fighting to reel in various fish. I've switched back to doing back squats, though the progression is slow... my form is still terrible which is really ****ing me off... I can survive it at 200 pounds... but the goal isn't 205, its 300 or higher. Most other things are stagnant... granted, I think there is some incremental improvement, I'd like the increments are more noticable.

I've gone back to working on power cleans as the "rules" have been clarified to that we're not allowed to drop the weights... the power clean doesn't require dropping the weights as one cannot create a failure where this is outright necessary short of injury... and injury is going to cause a dropped weight regardless.

All in its time, I suppose... I'm just tired of waiting for "some day".
