Oops. It's Alfredo Simon to Detroit from the Reds.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Can I get an idea of what kind of pitcher Porcello is?

Ground balls for days.

Really started to become the player we had been hearing about the last five years. Record near .500 this year, but that's because he got a full 1.25 runs less per game of support than Verlander or Scherzer. Not that he would've gone undefeated or anything, because there were a few clunker games where he'd get pulled in the third. Only issue was that despite his strong start he started to get shaky in September.

Thanks for the info.

When he keeps the ball down. When he doesn't, balls will commence going over the Citgo sign behind the Monster. 92-93 velocity. If he's not getting ground balls, you might want to go hide under the bed.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I approve of this post (without a clue of how accurate it is).
On one hand, this appears that the Tigers are shutting the door on Max Scherzer. On the other hand, it could all be one giant ploy by Dave Dombrowski to run the tables in any negotiation for their free agent pitcher with convincing walk away power.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Scherzer close to signing with Nats, rooming with Fister on road trips.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Apparently it's 210 for Scherzer: $15 for 14 years, although the contract is for 7.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Unless Verlander has a real comeback year, it's not looking that great. I'm hoping they find a left handed bat somewhere, and more help for the bull pen. i'm not a soria fan at all.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

The only thing I've got is that it's in black and white.

I've got Game 5 on DVD for both '68 and '84. '68 is where Jose Feliciano sang the national anthem, and where Lou Brock thought it was a good idea to run through Bill Freehan.

The production in '68 is completely different from what it is now. That 9th inning had 2 runs, 4 hits, a pinch runner coming in from the bullpen, and still only took 13 minutes and change. That translates to an 18-run game in just under 2 hours of game play.
