Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Andy Dirks has been claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays. There's one less option in the outfield for next year.

Victor Martinez and Max Scherzer have been given qualifying offers. That means we would get a compensatory draft pick if either signs elsewhere.

Also, former Tiger pitcher Jeff Robinson has died at 52.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

VMart stays. 4 years $68 million. Guess they had to give the extra year to keep him.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

And that's fine with me. He's a DH. He can probably still hit at 39, in that last year.

Reading the idiot Lynn Henning in the Detroit News that he thinks they should trade Ian Kinsler and roll with Hernan Perez. Miggy plus 3 2nd year players on the infield. With no Plan B. Yeah. Great idea.

Devon Travis shipped to the Blue Jays for 24 year old CF Anthony Gose. Here's my question: what's Plan B if this kid doesn't hit? Had a .604 OPS last year. That's Don Kelly level right there.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Noteworthy that Mike Ilitch actually made it out to the press conference for V-Mart's signing. Even managed to crack a nice little joke.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Good.

We also signed Joel Hanrahan (again) and told Torii Hunter that he won't be back.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Oh, and regarding the acquisition of Mr. Gose. It appears we might have just gotten the CF version of a cross between Iglesias (defensively) and Romine (at the plate). He's got nice range and a good arm, but he is NOT a hitter.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

3 team trade. Robbie Ray to Arizona. We get Shane Greene from the Yankees.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Interesting.

I figure this has to ramp up trade talks about Porcello and Price now.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Right, I forgot about that. For some reason I feel like we'll get him back.

Happy Torii is gone, for no other reason than that 19 inning game where he went 4-8 yet managed to go 0-3 in extras with RISP.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I just got tired of Torii turning grounders and routine fly balls into 3-run triples in right field.

We still need at least one more OF, by the way.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

So...resident pussylip Lynn Henning from the Detroit News doesn't like the 10-player limit on the HOF ballot, so he didn't send in the ballot. I don't know why. He's been mailing in his columns for years.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

Tigers trade Porcello to Boston for Cespedes.

Another trade is expected to be announced today. Prospects for a starting pitcher. Details unknown.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

2 others coming to Detroit.

The other deal is with Cincinnati for a SP. I wonder...

Dallas Latos just tweeted: "Oh god Mat's phone just rang. Heart attack."

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 7: The George Kell edition

I think Latos just went to the Marlins.
His wife doesn't know. She just tweeted that "Listen, the last time Mat was traded we found out on SportsCenter. You guys might know before I do."
