Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

what's the deal on Dotel, is he coming back, or gone?

Dotel was released. The guy had inflammation so bad that he had to have surgery to alleviate it. Then he tried to come back (at AAA) and had more elbow/forearm issues.

The Tigers cut bait with him after that. Plus the guy is like 40.

Lance Parrish is the new manager at AA-Erie.

Oh, and pitchers and catchers report in 16 days.

On this, the first day of Spring Training games, I come to tell you that Nicklas Lidstrom is having his #5 retired next Thursday. Mr. Ilitch is not on the list of people scheduled to attend.

I hope the Detroit Tigers are paying close attention to that revelation...

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Perez knocks in two with two outs, 6-5 going to the bottom of the 9th. It may be spring training but it just feels good to listen to a game on the radio again.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

The Tigers win 6-5! Sort of... Game called with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Technically Tigers lose but the way Dickerson and Price are talking since it's Spring Training it won't really matter. UPDATE: They have now called it a rain delay, so who knows. I can't stick around until the rain ends so I'm just going to call it a 6-5 final.

And cannot forget, Ernie Harwell to declare baseball is back.

Game NOT called. Rain delay. In spring training. Uh-huh.

Packed house and an absolutely beautiful day for baseball at Joker Merchant today. Scherzer and Warren pitching.

It was helping me think warm thoughts the other day. Lot better to think about baseball than having to be careful about hitting the snow covered potholes that can send you sliding into the ditch. Mother puckers!!

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Andy Dirks is out 12 weeks after back surgery. That takes us to roughly Memorial Day, and leaves us needing another bat for LF.

Oh, and Ian Kinsler is chirping at the Rangers organization.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

I'll pass on Drew. I'll take my chances with Perez and Suarez, at least until June. I'm not giving up that 1st round pick for a year of Stephen Drew.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 6: The Al Kaline edition

Certainly not the Tigers' fault, but it's just bizarre to me that there's a WS caliber team that needs a SS and Stephen Drew is working out at the Boras complex. Don't know whether this is a case of a player committing suicide or an agent who can't admit defeat.
