Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

This is going to continue until either we earhole someone, or someone big goes to the mound and pounds the **** out of an opposing pitcher.

No. Fielder got buzzed after Miggy's bomb. Ramirez got butthurt after Putkonen threw behind him after a grand slam. Putkonen and Marlboro Jimmy ejected.

Where's Rod Allen to lead a cattle stampede into the outfield again?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

I'm thinking more Farnsworth power-bombing Jeremy Affeldt into the infield, or Nolan Ryan turning Robin Ventura's head into a speed bag.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Leave it to Santiago to GIDP to end a 5-run 1st, with 2 on.

He's just about outlived his usefulness.

5-0, end 1.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Mr. Washington:

It's a bit late to argue about a call at the plate when the run in question makes the score 7-0 in the 2nd inning.

Thank you,
Baseball fans everywhere.

All right, Mr. Fister. We've dinked around here just about long enough. You're venturing into Ricky Porcello territory with this inning.

7-2 final.

Torii Hunter interview after losing to the White Sox: "Hot Tamale."

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

Friend got some seats first row in the Tigers bullpen, so that's where I'll be tonight. Hopefully see some history. The obvious one is who is starting, the other is Cabby is just 5 RBIs away from 100. Just think about that: 100 RBIs BEFORE the all-star break.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 5: The Hank Greenberg edition

In 1937 Hank Greenberg had 103 at the break....and finished with 183. On 40 homers.

Go look at some of the RBI totals from the 1930s. They're obscene. And they put those totals up in far bigger ballparks than what we have now. 415 feet was a nice power alley back then. Nowadays Lynn Henning pulls his uterus weekly whining about 390 foot outs that somehow should be 5-run homers.
