Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Man Valverde plays with fire. Fast ball after fast ball, walk after walk, and hamilton up, he throws breaking balls and gets him for the save. He's like todd jones.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

That little f-up right there is going to cost us a run.

BOESCH!!!

2-1 Tigers, bottom 6.

I cannot believe that we have not touched off the homer light all season.

Oh, and the blasts before and after Boesch's bomb are going to draw a column from our resident Detroit News crybaby, Lynn Henning.

Throwing the ball around bit us in the 'cheeks there. Smyly was sharp again, but gets another ND.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

In what world does it make sense to pinch hit with a player who has a .057 batting average?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

It doesn't. Plain and simple.

But if that's all the better we can handle the squeeze, it's not really gonna matter. We'll be lucky not to give up 4 runs here in the 11th.

Jimmy's getting heaved in 3.....2.....1.....

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

This post-game presser could be a good one, between Welke's call and the Inge move in the 10th.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Well, it will be interesting to see the Texas vs. Tigers matchup and where they stand the last week in June in Arlington.

Leyland was pretty diplomatic in the post-game: not gonna get on the ump for the call--"not gonna give you a quote...you write what you saw."

Smyly pitched good--too bad they weren't hitting again. Edit: timely hits I guess I should say.

Inge now down to .056 BA. Good amount of boos when he went up to PH. Hopefully if the boos continue growing Illitch will get the hint.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I'm not a big fan of booing no matter who.. I just don't see the point.Do they think that by booing the player will be more motivated? Maybe we should not have traded Polanco.
I thought overall team defense cost us today. The throw to second was terrible, and the lack of run production is disconcerting.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

From my perspective, booing is just the voicing of displeasure by fans. It's hard to cheer a guy whose batting average resembles a Bingo number. It's been going on for over 100 years in this game. Personally, I don't take anything more than that out of it. *shrug*

As for the offense, I think we're just pressing. We're gonna be fine, I think. Once we get past the end of next week, the schedule gets much easier through Memorial Day, even though we're on the road an awful lot.

I would have to agree with this. Hell, no need to really get all that worried until its 40 games in. Its a long season everybody. The schedule lightens up a little by then, Inge is quietly shipped off to a glue factory in Toledo, and the weather gets nicer as well.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I think booing is OK. Even if you are booing the home team. They are getting paid to do a job, when they fail to do it, they should hear about it.

Some just fail a lot more than others.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

I'll reiterate: go 4-3 the last 7 games of the month and the Tigers go 14-9.Very doable considering that the Pil err, the Mariners are coming in and the Yankees pitching
is hopefully gonna wake the bats up.

Texas beat up the pitching in 2 of the games, but I thought Smyly was good yesterday and JV was money. Should have split, but we don't have the back end depth Texas does with their pitching staff.

BTW- Detroit stands 5th in fielding % in the A.L and 10 of 14 in batting average in the A.L.
