Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

How about this gem, from Tom Gage's Twitter:

Inge on strikeouts: "Such an over-rated stat, such a stupid stat. You won't hit the ball with any authority if you worry about K's."

Ummmm, Inge. When you can't hit a cow in the *** with a snow shovel, strikeouts ARE an issue. When you're Babe Ruth and slug .690 despite your K's, then strikeouts don't matter much.

LOL. I guess we can change Ernie's famous strikeout call to " he stood there like the cow at the side of the barn."

Two days in a row our favorite targets contribute to victories. I'm sure tonight Santiago will go 4 for 4 and hit for the cycle.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

We've got a strange way of making Bruce Chen look like Steve Carlton.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Thunder and Lightning come up big with back-to-back RBI singles. 3-1 now.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Boesch darn near turned that into an inside the parker there.

3-1 final.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

We might not be able to score on him in a month.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

So far, no weather problems this month. Get out of KC with a sweep tonight and 9-3 isn't too bad. So far only 2 starters have wins, though. Texas (9-2) LA (9-2) and Washington (9-3) also at that mark. Should be telling how the Tigers fare against Texas, after the shellacking they gave the Bosox last night. 8 home games and 4 roadies left this month. Split them and we're 14-9 to start the season, about where I thought they'd be in April. Could be better if they could figure out how to catch the ball in the outfield. Pitching has been pretty decent overall and, as I thought they'd be, the hitting is all or nothing. Fun stat last night was Rod and Mario trying to sell viewers on the idea that the Tiger's team defense is really 3rd best in the AL. Let's see that after 40 games as Sparky would say.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Raburn, Inge and Gump in tonight's lineup. Oh dear...

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Nice to hear a "S-T-F-U" aimed at the Tigers bench two pitches into the game....

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Really nice piece of baserunning from Raburn to score there, and from Peralta to get to 2nd, too.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Prince Fielder just stole 2nd base. Off of a left-handed pitcher.

Prince, thank you, but please don't make that a habit.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Bases loaded, 0 out, and we strand half of Missouri.

We're going to lose this game, and this is why.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

Well, Gump has earned his keep for about the next week now.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

And Thunder and Lightning have put us ahead again.

I'd put Scherzer on a short leash now and have the bullpen on high alert.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 2 - The Charlie Gehringer version

This isn't Gump's fault, either.

If the Royals want to rumble, we've got Fielder and Cabrera sitting there in the infield. I like our chances.
