Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Raburn playing for Betemit tonight at 3rd. Apparently Betemit need a day off after sitting the bench in Kansas City most of the last two months.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

If he makes too many errors they may torch his leg, too.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Verlander tried to barbecue Don Kelly's foot. You could have roasted marshmallows over his leg.

They showed that a couple times on the Twins broadcast. A very nice tribute to Bert Blyleven. :)

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

So.....We take out a starter in his 2nd career start for a guy who is making his major league debut. Oh, and the bases are loaded.

Ooookaaaaaaaaay.......

Chance Ruffin: MLB debut

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

And Marlboro Jimmy gets tossed.

EDIT: And Cabrera might not be far behind. In fact, he might already be gone.

This could turn into a ****-show.

First time in over 10 years that a pitcher made his big league debut in a tie game with the bases loaded.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Leyland used to have throwaway Sundays where the batting order was full of crap so guys could "rest"

That was a throwaway pitching effort. All they missed was finding a 2011 draft pick to stick on the mound. You have Verlander going today. Why on earth wouldn't you use your better bullpen guys today? 9 times out of 10, Verlander gets you 7-8 solid innings.

Ilitch speaks

A couple quotes:

Michael Ilitch said:
"I'd be extremely disappointed if we don't (make the playoffs)," Ilitch said Tuesday...................

...................Asked if he wanted a playoff berth this year as badly as ever, Ilitch chuckled. He turned 82 last week, and his message was succinct.

"Well, I'm not a rookie, I'm not a spring chicken," he said. "So you figure that one out."

Uh-oh.....

As soon as Konerko hit that, Rod Allen and I both said "uh-oh" at the same time.

5-4 final. We had to work for this one.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Bases loaded, 1 out. Raburn K, Ordonez FC.

Well, we can all guess where this game is going.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

It's never a good sign when the opposition brings in a reliever specifically so you don't pinch hit for a player. And that player is batting second in your lineup.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Huh. Something called "Mark Trumbo" needs a single for the cycle today in Detroit. Purcey's line: 1 hit, two walks, two balls. Yanked for Coke.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Oh, this is convenient. Penny and Martinez had one helluva argument on the field in the top of the 4th during Penny's pitiful shelling. FSD's replay just happens to skip to the bottom of the 4th due to "time constraints"..

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

Ruffin sent down, Schlereth back up. I'm not real sure what calling up Schlereth solves. Now we've got 2 lefties in the pen that can't throw strikes.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 1 - The Lou Whitaker version

And two pitches in, we're off to a smashing start.
