Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

This one deserves it.

Yes. Yes, it certainly does.

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

Honestly, I blame myself. I was listening to the game as I was driving, and I finally got to a place where I could watch the game, and I sat down in time to catch the last 2 minutes of regulation.

No more TV football for you, then. You can handle going for a drive to listen to them....

Still, I'm not sure if luck had anything to do with the poor call on 3rd down or the horrendous late hit that very much contributed to the loss.

That, or if Suh had kicked it about 6 inches to the left there. Or did a funky 2 point try with him.

We probably would have lost in regulation with a TD then, anyway....

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

Overtime.

All set up by a dog**** playcall from Linehan, throwing the football on 3rd and 6 coming out of the 2-minute warning. No wonder the Rams ****canned his ***.

Yup. There's other stuff to get upset about, but it all boiled down to this. Play action pass with your third string QB running the offense and the other team without a timeout to stop the clock coming out of the two minute warning. Run a draw play and kill 30-40 more seconds. Eat the delay of game penalty if you need to, just kill clock. Ridiculous.

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

I realize I'm out on the fringe here but I like the play call. Two things: (1) take the sack if necessary and (2) complete the pass if you throw it. Sorry to sound strident but Stanton should not be on the roster if he cannot throw that pass accurately. You can find twenty people at the bar every Sunday who can complete that pass. The OC is an easy target but honestly the ninth-string long snapper at a Div. III school can hit the receiver on that play. This guy was a second-round draft choice, right?***

[***NOTE: Picked by Matt Millen.]

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

Don't worry. You'll get to pound my team next week. That will make you feel a lot better. I just want to keep losing til Dallas and Carolina get 2 wins because we all know Buffalo would lose a coin flip to Dallas. The NFL would fall over itself to make sure the coin flip goes the right way. :D

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

That unnecessary roughness doesn't happen, the Lions win, IMO. Simple as that. I wasn't totally involved in the game, but I had my eye on it, so I might have missed some finer details of the game.

It was a stupid penalty. It wasn't even close.

Perhaps, but it would have forced the Jets to go for the TD as well. Maybe with them thinking endzone instead of just getting into range, Sanchez forces something somewhere it shouldn't, just misses on four tries, or even Sack-Fumble-Turnover.

With the lack of pessimism in your reply, I wonder if you really are a lions fan. ;)

And IIRC someone missed a tackle on that play that would've brought Tomlinson down in bounds. He makes that tackle OR the guy pulls up and Detroit likely wins -- and of course they fail in both respects.

I wouldn't usually be that invested in it, but ever since the schedule came out I've been thinking Thanksgiving is a nice spot for Detroit to make a statement. If they put up 40 on NE, giving that game away yesterday is really going to be a kick in the balls from my standpoint.

Yeah, suppose we had won that. We go to 3-5, and imagine the "here come the Lions!" stories.

Next contestant? Buffalo. 4-5.

Next contestant? Dallas. 5-5.

A .500 Lions team (in a division where 9-7 might just do the trick, mind you) going against the Pats on Thanksgiving. That would have been the biggest Lions game in a decade.

Aunt, balls, uncle, etc.

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

Can we resign Culpepper? He's got to be better than ****ing Stanton.

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

That roughing the passer call: shades of Pats/Raiders in 1978, methinks.

You and that long memory of yours, Jon. Did you hop in the TARDIS for that one or was that one from knowledge? :D

To me, Tomlinson was tackled in bounds. Knees were down before he even reached the ball over the sideline. Somehow the side judge said he got out. On the list of complaints, it's in there, but I still say Linehan's terrible call is the worst.

It's a bad call because Stanton is the team's THIRD string QB. Shaun Hill is the backup and he's got a broken arm. Take the sack, fine, but you HAVE to keep the clock running there and a pass play is ridiculous.

Re: Detroit Lions 2010: Let's do our Best to keep our Johnson in our Schwartz, okay?

Mountie- It was up there with "too many men on the ice", Bucky Dent, and Grady Little's brain fart in the worst moments in Boston sports. The call was verrryyyy similar.
