Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Colborne for DU out indefinitely with a broken finger. He had surgery after Friday's game against OSU and may need more. Good possibilty Chevy plays between the pipes both nights for DU after Murray has struggled in his two starts.

which hand?

Looking forward to this matchup this weekend... between dasher dancer Gwoz and the Kangas synchronized ice-dancing line, this looks to be the dance-off of the year! Split

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

UGH.

The Kangas dancers were from last year. Not sure if they have continued it into this year, I haven't seen any of the media day photos.

We don't know yet as the only report of this is out of Edmonton from the Pipeline blog. Gwoz did say in the post-game on Friday that Joe hurt his hand and did not play the rest of the game. They wouldn't know the extent of the injury until seeing the doctors. The Pipleine blog released the story about Joe breaking his finger and having surgery. Joe is supposed to do a radio interview tonight with the Pipeline guys. Joe has done numerous interviews with the Pipline guys so I think their report is probably pretty credible. DG will be posting the link at the LetsGoDU blog today for the interview which will be on-line.

Update from Mike Chambers of Denver Post: Gwoz has flu and may return to practice on Wednesday. Colborne is doubtful for this weekend and is day-to-day. If he is able to play this weekend he will make the trip. Goalie rotation is intact for this weekend with Chevy on Friday and Murray on Saturday.

The one consistent thing for the last 5 years is they have a pattern. You see one team one night, a whole different team the next. Friday at No Dak was gawd awful, Saturday was complete, to the end effort. A couple shots went wide that would have been the winner.

Split this weekend. One night let down, probably Friday, lately they have to play catch up, get down then fight their way out. DU will be ready this weekend.

I would expect Minnesota to be all jacked up and ready to go on Friday night. Opening night at home, 10,000+ fans in the barn and a week to recover from the "Shock & Awe" of playing against UND.

DU and Minnesota are probably pretty similar in style and substance. Not very physical, uptempo, finesse type teams. First goal will be huge Friday night.

Big question: Can DU contain Minnesota's top line of Barriball & Schroeder? UND bottled up Schroeder and gained three points as a result.

You're right about the pattern. Remember last season? With the exception of the very first regular season game (vs SCSU) we couldn't figure out how to win on Friday night. We had several Friday night ties in a row. This year looks to be similar, for whatever reason. There shouldn't be a new learning curve every weekend. I'd like to predict a split, but given the recent history, I'm guessing Friday night's result won't be in the win column for us.

I still don't know how to peg this year's Gopher team. We've only seen two real games, and there seemed to be two completely different teams on the ice each night. I know we're at home this weekend instead of the Ralph, but I can't start thinking that Denver will be an easier opponent than UND - even if we are at home. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

My employer just shipped 3 barrels of oil to the UM, specifically the Gophers hockey team. I made some calls, talked to some people, and the rumor is they're gonna make the dashers slippery and undanceable.

Oh man, I hope Gwoz tries it anyways. :D

They should use KY instead, for Gwoz's pleasure.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

I'm confused why they need three barrels. That seems a bit excessive.

Well, Gwoz has a tremendous sense of balance and flair. Gotta make sure the job is done right. And since there's two games, with WCHA refs, at the Mooch........the dancing potential is high.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Well yes, but still. Exactly how large are these barrels? Like 55 gallon drums? That's an awful lot of oil.

They are in fact 55 gallon drums. 500lbs/barrel. :)

Not to disappoint, but the Gwoz has the flu. He may not be at peak form.
We trust that the team will prevail.:D

We can lend you Hill. He has previous head coach experience. And he knows the MN system well. :D
