Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Gophs lost to the better team last night. At least Minnesota competed last night, unlike last Friday against UND. Don't see much hope of finding finishers on this Gopher team though. If we had a few more who worked and fought like Hoffel we might get something. Without that kind of effort from the rest of the squad, it'll be a long season.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

To me the Gophers showed very little fire last night except for freshman Helgeson. I don't think he'll be around long.

My momma told be if I can't say anything nice...don't say anything at all.

(Silence)

OK, a few things. We look like boys among men. We skate like Bantams, shoot like Pee-Wees, and hit like girl's hockey (we don't). Another year of the same? Looks like it to me. Very frustrated...and not very entertained.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

The RnR Connection (Rakhshani and Ruegsegger) played like the team leaders they are.

Donovan, Wrenn and Shore played like the core of a great Freshman Class.

Would love a repeat tonight!

Sorry Mo-Tay, but you watched a different game than I did. The Gophers were no where near that bad last night. Yes, the Pios were better, but the Gophs competed, they did hit (at least Hoffel and a couple of others did). Now the shooting and passing were an issue. Many shots going high and wide and many passes being off-target, weak, and/or telegraphed to be picked off.

I'll agree with this but it is starting to bother me that the scorers that this team recruits can't score anymore when they get to college. And none of them can hit the net.

They were way better than last Friday night. However, the Gophers are weak in the corners and weak in front of the net. They play their game from the dots to the blueline and try to rely on superior talent from smallish forwards to make things happen. The pp is anemic, but it was better in the third where they rolled two players in front of the net and finally got some legitimate traffic and chances going. Win a faceoff!

When I look at the Gophers of the last four years I see a team with not enough leadership in their top talent. Not only do they need their top players to actually perform, they need to lead the team by example, and occasionally carry the team along with them when the times get tough... or drag the team kicking and screaming if need be. The top talent needs to play when they don't want to play. By this I mean they need to fight the little battles, backcheck and do the little things that go beyond their abilities. When the top talent starts doing that, the younger players will follow suit and see that that is how to play the game. Kessel, Okposo, Ryan Potulny... all great talents, but their games were about them, not the team. The last four years there has been a huge lack of grit and heart. Grant Potulny, Leopold... those are guys that busted their balls and didn't rely on straight up talent to get through a game. I see none of that here. Upperclass leadership is great, but it's harder to follow a third line senior that has 10 goals in his career. Seeing the best players play to their abilities and also work their *****es off? Now you have a guy to follow and the team will go places.

I absolutely agree that it was better last night and they competed. However, they are missing that extra gear that I have come to expect from Gopher teams. That is where my point was coming from. **** expections...

To say something good, there are flashes of good play, but not consistently. I know that it is early, but at this point, the Gophs look like a tier 2 team. Denver and UND have looked physically stronger and faster. Eww...I just puked in my mouth a little bit.

Play well and win tonight and I will start drinking the kool-aid again...

Congrats Denver! At least one of my favorite teams won last night! ;)

**** that is not good news for the Gophs.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

Schroeder and Budish have yet to play this year. I wonder if they'll finally be in the lineup tonight...

How can you expect Budish to show more? The kid is 18 years old and skates like an elephant. Don't get me wrong, I think he has potential to develop into a dominant player, but not in the first two weeks of his college career.

Schroeder on the other hand...wondering if Stoa was a bigger part of his success than I had thought. He has been pretty much non-existent this year, and that just shouldn't be the case for a guy of Schroeder's ability and who did so well last season.

Also, anyone here anything about Barriball? I don't think I saw him on the ice for the entire 3rd period.

Roman's blog apparently says he injured a muscle. They're pretty secretive now because of the HIPPAA laws.

Re: Denver Pioneers visit the MN Golden Gophers Oct 23-24

What HIPAA law keeps a team from disclosing a player injury?

Health Information Privacy

The Office for Civil Rights enforces the HIPAA Privacy Rule, which protects the privacy of individually identifiable health information, and the confidentiality provisions of the Patient Safety Rule, which protect identifiable information being used to analyze patient safety events and improve patient safety.

http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/

That one. The players privacy regarding their health prevents the team from talking about or revealing their injury to the media.

I know what HIPAA is. Just seems odd that if the player says "Hey I hurt my whatever" to the team that its then still private information. Seems it would then be public.
