Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

bump!!! Come on people, where's the rivalry?, where's the animosity? So much history between our two programs, don't we have anything to argue about?

The "run off your program's history" tank has run out of gas for us, sorry.

FOX Sports North, in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, Wells Fargo and Minnesota Hockey, announced today a cooperative effort to celebrate the Fifth Annual Hockey Day Minnesota with a full day of hockey programming, including telecasts of hockey games taking place across the state on Saturday, February 12, 2011.

Hockey Day Minnesota 2011 on FOX Sports North, presented by Wells Fargo as part of a multi-year agreement, will include a full day of hockey-related programming designed as a celebration of the game from peewees to pros. The city of Moorhead, Minnesota will serve as the background for the high school games featured in the Hockey Day Minnesota 2011 lineup.

"Moorhead is an ideal location to celebrate the community spirit of Minnesota Hockey," said Dave Margenau, President of Minnesota Hockey. "The Moorhead Youth Hockey Association is well respected and will represent all that makes hockey in Minnesota so special."

"Hockey Day Minnesota continues to grow and build tradition throughout the State of Hockey," said Mike Dimond, Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX Sports North. "It provides an opportunity to highlight hockey in Minnesota at all levels and we’re very excited to showcase the programs in Moorhead."

Hockey Day Minnesota coverage will also include a Minnesota Wild game from Xcel Energy Center, as well as a University of Minnesota Golden Gopher game. A complete list of games and programming schedule will be released at a later date.

"Hockey Day Minnesota has quickly become a date that the residents of the State of Hockey mark on their calendars," Wild Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka said. "The Wild is pleased to partner with Wells Fargo, FOX Sports North, Minnesota Hockey and the city of Moorhead on this tremendous day."

Last season’s day-long event took place on January 23, 2010 and included 21 hours of hockey-related programming with five games from three different Minnesota locations: the Hermantown Hockey Complex in Hermantown, Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul and Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. A record-breaking 3,500 fans attended the outdoor high school hockey games and activities in Hermantown. Other previous locations include Baudette Bay and St. Paul.

The Gophers can't lose on Hockey Day Minnesota, so we're a shoe-in for at least a split.

Gwoz behind the Gophers bench next year....how sweet would that be! If DU won't pay the man, we might as well.:D

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

If DU can take this supposedly-rebuilding DU team deep into the NCAA playoffs, I think DU will give him a great new deal. His contract expires in 2014, so any school looking to buy him out would have a pretty big price tag attached.

Finally, my guess is that if Lucia leaves, Minnesota will probably look long and hard for a Minnesotan to replace him given the importance of owning the state in reruiting, although if they don't like the Minnesota candidates, I could see them looking outside.

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

Gophers play awful at home. Split may be likely but I bet Denver comes away with more than that.

Seems like Denver should be able to get a sweep. However Denver is comming off an interesting weekend at CC. At times the games looked like a free-for-all, and although that series was exciting for the fans, I have to believe Denver should play with much more discipline this weekend, but still seems to be prone to make mistakes.

This time of the year in the WCHA one would kind of expect a couple of low scoring games with lots of checking, hits, and very tight defensive play. If Denver continues to make mistakes like they did against CC then the Gophers may have a chance to pick up some points this weekend.

But with Denver in a very tight race for the WCHA title one would think that cooler heads should prevail for Denver this weekend.

Denver sweeps!

Unless Denver makes a bunch of mistakes again then:

Split.
But then again UMD, North Dakota, UNO, and Wisconsin all would like to see first place Denver get swept this weekend.

Come on Gophers!
Go Sweep Denver!!!!
:D

DU (ugh) will sweep. Wow, that didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would.

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent (ouch!:(). Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race (including the Gophers?). -Calvin Collidge (30th President of the United States)

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

Unfortunately, I think Deja vU may visit Mariucci this weekend. Even persistence most likely won't help the Gophers avoid a proverbial last "nail in the coffin" scenario. Over the past few years DU has always played the Gophers tough either home or away. They have a tendency to score early and often as the game progresses. Look for Rookie of the Year candidate, Jason Zucker to bury a few, along with Salazar, Maiani and Shore.

The first period has been the highest scoring for the Gophers, but the DU defense has been very frugal in goals allowed in the first in WCHA play. The Gophers have a tendency to give up goals on turnovers, get into penalty trouble early and have yet to win even one game when trailing after 1.

This is not a comeback team. It's doubtful we'll have a 20 goal scorer this season. Unless the Gophers play much more flawless defensive hockey at home and get the early lead, DU will most certainly bury their chances. Our best chance in getting any points at all is in Patterson, but with the Gophers porous D he will most likely face a barrage of 80+ SOG this weekend.

DU swept the Gophers at Mariucci last year...Deja vU Ouch!:(
