Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

This team is much better than last years, but they are lacking a bit in offensive punch, and have started playing quality hockey just a little late. I will say, however, that they are going to be a very tough team to play comes play-offs.

The goaltending is better I give you that, but it's hard to find too much difference between this year and last year: Last year: 12-13-2, this year: 11-12-4... And the Gophers are in a serious scoring slump right now. Since the beginning of Dec. the Gophers are averaging about 2 goals/game (13 games). The same stretch last year: 3.46 goals/game. Tough to win in the WCHA on two goals. They'll need more than that tonight for a W.

If they can get over the severe case of "Net Aversion Disorder" that they're suffering from then they could make someone's life miserable. I'm afraid if I held my breath though I'd die.

Individual season records aren't always indicative of the caliber of a team.
From my own observations, I would say this year's Gophers are better front to back than last years; they just haven't been able to improve scoring. I am also looking at how they have been since the new year. They have been playing some pretty good hockey, but against a pretty tough schedule. People lamented MN's performance Saturday against Anchorage, but that was another game where they controlled the play against a pretty decent UAA squad....they just couldn't score.
If they had been playing like this since November things would be looking much different I think.

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

They just seem to lack 1 or 2 natural goalscorers who can find the back of the net.

1 or 2??? If they had 1 or 2 that would still not be enough since they now have 0.

Lack a little offensive punch??? They couldn't score in the proverbial whorehouse with a pocket full of $100s!

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

That's ok, cause the once mighty gophers don't deserve to represent Minnesota on hockey day. It should be teams like UMD and SCSU, teams on the rise, with consistently good programs.

No ratings.

If Zucker can put on some more weight by September he will be given every chance of making the Wild.

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

Good game tonight by the boys, just think if we could do that all the time. The Gophers played good all weekend now lets see if we can go to Wisconsin and 4 points!

Re: Denver @ MN: Dasher Dancer Takes on Dapper Don!

Congrats, DU on a good overall series. Despite tonight, I think I will be seeing you guys again in April in St Paul. In the overall scheme of things, if you don't go all Yale on the bit, tonight was a hiccup.

Not to say that you guys played badly, MN was actually playing to their potential tonight. Unfortunately, it's consistency they lack.

Either way, hopefully MN can make a run, and DU can continue the success they've seen all season.

Now, on to beat the beasts from the east!

Yes, 1 or 2. Most teams don't have more than a couple truly gifted goalscorers.
The difference last night was that Denver had one, and MN didn't.

As far as tonight...and the scoring in a whorehouse...woops.

Yes, it's one game. It's just nice to finally see MN get rewarded for the kind of hockey they have been playing the past 6 weeks.

That was a total dismantling.

Thanks, bro. Nice post. Many of us DU fans saw a split as the most probably result and realistically, taking 2 points on the weekend really is a great result for this DU team. Realistically, over the years, isn't it a good result to go into an enemy barn and take couple of points? Plus, playing Minny on Hockey Day Minnesota didn't really work for us especially since we won on Friday. The Gopher team tonight was motivated and hungry. After DU's initial goal was overturned by the refs and Minny scored their own goal not long later, I knew at that point it was going to be a long night. Congrats to the Gophers for playing with desperation and desire. That was one motivated team tonight. And the favorable momentum just built and built for the home team. I was proud of my team for winning the third period (a small consolation after getting our arses handed to us in the first two). And it was good to see Minnesota show their talent and what they could be. A team with this much talent could go far in the tourney IF they make it. Tonight was step one.

I may be an arrogant ahole, but after a series, I call it as a see it.

You guys are at the top for a reason. And the third period, honestly, it was because the Gophs let up and just about turtled just to get the game over with. If the Gophs did what they did the first two periods, a shutout was likely. Again, this is not indicative of the seasons, just tonight. I really am hoping that MN uses this as a wake-the-*-up call and play this way the rest of the season.

Of course, I say that last statement after any loss, but maybe this time it'll stick. And yes, I say THAT after every time MN loses too.

Win something important, then come talk to us.
