Denver at St. Cloud Friday, 2/7/14

Re: Denver at St. Cloud Friday, 2/7/14

Very, very slim, IMO. They definitely love having the games in the US because of the live coverage and MONEY. And potentially MONEY could cause them to give us a second chance. It'll be a tough sell. How do the people behind a future Denver/Colorado bid answer the question: "How do we know you won't fcuk us again?"

Let me get Federico Pena and Wellington Webb on that one right away.:D

I've always included the loss of the '76 Olympics on that list of "perfect storm" events that helped usher in the New Dark Ages for DU hockey: Murray retires, Harry Ottenbreit dies on his way to campus, the phony NC$$ probation (because we stood up to those a*sholes), dropping down to DII (thanks Ron Oyer, you pr*ck) and all the rest.

Re: Denver at St. Cloud Friday, 2/7/14

I don't think there'll be two teams with high enough PWR to make the tourney. The conference has had an unimpressive debut thus far. My $.02.

Have to agree, but ST Cloud, unless they totally fold, would make it and fka Sioux or surprising tUMD could win the autobid. For that matter we might surprise ourselves and the league.

Didn't DU actually drop down to NAIA status in some sports?

A nightmare for the NCHC would be having a complete darkhorse [WMU, Miami, CC] win the conference tourney and getting the autobid.

Pretty cool: athletes marching in to the stadium from underneath. I am such a sucker for the Olympics. In Sapporo I had no answer for a foreign journalist who asked me: "If the Super Bowl is so super, why do you have it every year?"

Re: Denver at St. Cloud Friday, 2/7/14

Sounds like DU is a boxer getting pummeled in this round, but is somehow hanging on. No sustained offensive pressure.

You may be right. I recall getting a hockey media guide one year (remember them?) that was 8 pages! 8! Boy, if that doesn't shout "down grading" and "de-emphasizing," nothing would. Poor Bill Scharton. We are miles ahead of that these days. But I'd still like to see budget for media guides, at least in hockey, Bball and LAX.

DU hoops was definitely in the NAIA as they played in the 1984 NAIA tourney. And SCSU goes up 2-1

We have 3 in right now. Even if UND or Duluth falls out, another team could get in via autobid. I would be shocked if the NCHC got less than 3 teams in.
