Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

More than happy to provide substance unlike the guy who solely throws out ad Homs and supports big brain Pete and his terrible ideas like this one (which would cost more than 7.5% M4A payroll tan and be substantially worse because you’d still have deductibles and what not):

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">if you think single payer would be unpopular because it’s forcing people to use the government plan, how do you think they’d feel about finding out the government will take thousands of dollars from them as retroactive premiums (& what if they don’t even know they were insured!)</p>— guy fieri 2020 campaign manager (@libbycwatson) <a href="https://twitter.com/libbycwatson/status/1209637256631398400?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 25, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Clearly the people who can’t afford a $400 emergency or are already drowning in medical debt will benefit under this plan that hits them with thousands in taxes come tax season.

Another ****ty idea that's already been out there for a while. I'd love to hear some new good ideas.

A $400 emergency? A flat tire?

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

That would require Nancy to actually wield power effectively.

I think Pelosi's done a fine job through this whole Congress in very difficult circumstances. She is surrounded by saboteurs and terrorists and still gets some things done. Her performance as Speaker has been analogous to Obama's as President. History will regard them favorably, seeing them as part of a wall of sanity holding back Republican Nazism.

She apparently needs to be primaried.

There is more to politics than policy. History is littered with policy wonks who would have made fine heads of government but never got the chance because they couldn't get elected. You can be smug and demean every other candidate if you want, but remember you'll need their supporters' votes in the general if Bernie gets that far. And unless you're a disingenuous Russian hack, about 3/4ths of us will be supporting someone in the general other than our favored primary candidate, so maybe stop to think about what you're saying now and whether "9 months from now" you will cringe at what you said about the person you'll be voting for.

So maybe stop using the juvenile nicknames against every other candidate, stop attacking party members who aren't even running like Pelosi, and focus on the end game.

I support Mayor Pete because he's not 70, he's a Rhodes Scholar, he's not 70, he's former military, he's not 70, he's sufficiently liberal for me, and oh yeah, he's not 70.

I'll be perfectly fine if any of the septugenarians get the nomination, but they are far from my first choice.

Perhaps Russia can pay Tulski Gabbardoff to move there and challenge her. ;)

There's nothing smug about pointing out how terrible Pete's policy is here, it'd literally ensure the democrats lose for another generation. If you're for that then you're either a Republican or just not much smarter than the average Trump supporter if you think it'll help the dems win long term.

And policy is everything, there's literally no point in winning unless your side enacts policies that improve your life you in some way.

They say that, but when push comes to shove they will pick Dump every time.

I do know people that are/were republicans that are disgusted by Trump and absolutely would vote for a Biden or Bloomberg but would probably waste their vote on McMillan or Johnson if the alternative is Warren or Sanders. Maybe not enough of them to make a significant difference in the election though.

That's basically my father. Voted GOP until Obama '12 and Clinton '16 but "doesn't want a socialist."

There are more than you think, at least in my neck of the woods. Most, if not all, of the Non-aligned Centerists (Yes I know most posters on this board think we are as prevalent as unicorns but we do exist) feel the same.

and absolutely would vote for a Biden or <STRIKE>Bloomberg</STRIKE> Mayor Pete
FYP

but would probably waste their vote on <STRIKE>McMillan</STRIKE> Charles Barkley or <STRIKE>Johnson</STRIKE> Krusty the Clown if the alternative is Warren or Sanders.
I can give you at least 20,000 reasons/year why I'll do this.

Maybe not enough of them to make a significant difference in the election though.
Correct but probably more than enough that would take to to flip MI to blue

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

My favorite is when someone describes their views as "center-right", and then you get to talking with them and confirm they're basically a secular conservative who is OK with a lot of things that don't personally affect them.

I will take them seriously when they vote for the Dem nominee to rid us of Dump.

There are a huge number of "conservatives" who oppose Dump in principle but in practice vote for him, or vote Libertarian, or refrain from voting. Those folks are deluding themselves or others.

It wouldn't take much for me to abandon a terrible Dem for a Green or a Socialist or just sit home. I've done it in the past. It would take a Herculean effort for me to vote for some slime ball Republican POS whose party embodies everything I hate. But that's what I would have to do if I was really more interested in getting rid of the cancer than just assuring myself it wasn't my fault. That's how I know that expecting somebody to conscientiously vote for the opposite major party is such a big ask. But it's the only way to be honorable.

Apparently Biden does not think he needs to respond to subpoena's either. I guess he has more in common with Dump than I thought.

That was such a stupid answer. As we've all said about Trump, if you have nothing to hide then why not testify.if they call him, he needs to go.

It was beyond stupid. He actually makes Dump's case for stonewalling stronger by saying that.
