Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

They will, his challenger got more votes that the Republican despite having like 6 figures to spend on her campaign and the DCCC aggressively backing Manchin and bringing candidates from Washington to speak on his behalf.

What are you talking about? Manchin's challenger got 48.5K votes in the primary vs Manchin. Morrisey, the Gooper nominee in the general received 271K votes in the general election.

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

Flipping a Senate seat is always a big deal. Incumbency doesn't just bestow perks it also denies them. The reason you throw everything including the kitchen sink at a vacancy is it's probably the last time you'll get a shot at the seat for a generation.

We're arguing about losses that happened 40 years ago. That's the equivalent of people saying "Reagan can't win, look what happened to Hoover."

Things change. Just like people became wary of liberalism in the late '70s after a long, long run they have become sick and tired of devil take the hindmost conservatism. Systems that are in place long enough wear out their welcome and I can't think of anything less welcome than the Republican Party.

We are the ones betraying us, not the voters. Bernie would lose the pundits and lose the Beltway experts and lose the media and lose the DNC money people and lose the Wise Old Heads and win the election.

For a guy who enjoys referencing the past more than most this is kind of a bizarre take...

And until the next election all we can do is look at the past. That is kind of how you get better.

Sorry I should've stipulated, PGS got more votes challenging Manchin than any of the republicans did in their respective primary.

Uh no, they compromised the principles of the party that supposedly represents the working class and still lost achieving the exact same outcome against embarrassingly stupid candidates.

Yeah principled candidates getting smoked looks better. Mondale isn't seen as a joke and Carter as one of the weakest Presidents of the modern era. (whether fair or not)

I will give you this...your takes are interesting due to them being different.

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

I'm not saying it looks better, I'm saying that the end result is the same in either circumstance and losing a close race to a clown fascist isn't significantly better.

projecting again

Part of understanding the past is knowing it ebbs and flows. The people fixated on McGovern and Mondale are making the same mistake as the people in the 70s who thought the New Deal Coalition would never end.

The Reagan Spell will break someday. The question is, do we help break it or do we wait and waste another 4 or 8 or 12 years on the voodoo economics that killed the Middle Class?

This is where I look for the Utes to save us. Not just to vote Dem but to push all us old failbots off the stage and blow some life back into Jackson's old corpse. Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable, godd-mnit, and if some of the comfortable are Democrats then afflict us.

oof I thought I remembered Bernie being involved in a rust belt threesome... I could be wrong, or I'm remembering a low-budget porno of some kind?

There was that one movie where a Bernie lookalike goes to the country club and starts doing all the high class female plutes. mookie can help you out with the name of the film if you're interested. :D

I'd say it was a mixed bag in the Rust Belt, with Sanders winning MI and WI while Clinton won OH and PA.

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

I heard on Twitter that Bernie and Liz were arguing about something... naturally I assume Bernie is standing up for his principles out of strength and a sense of duty, while Liz is being shrill and hysterical. I don't even have to read the details.

In your mind would a seat that's been held by the opposite party for 100 years suffice as a tough race?

In fairness, someone who was a Northern Republican anytime before the Southern Strategy would most likely be a Democrat today.

The realignment of the parties cuts both ways.

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

Some of the questions are not nuanced enough and I certainly don't agree with how they summarized (at least some) my responses. Oh well.

Agreed, but still worth the stupid minute it took. Here's what I got:

You're on the left and collective quadrant of the political compass! You value the role of big government in providing all citizens with essential services and you believe that government's job is to guarantee equality. You favor higher taxes on the rich and believe in more publicly funded programs for the disadvantaged. You're sceptical of the free market and you think that too much individualism is dangerous. You hold many communitarian values and you support limiting certain individual freedoms for the good of society. You're compassionate, idealistic and deeply dedicated to your community! You're a proud bleeding heart! What's do you think? Is this accurate?

And then I answered it how I would have three years ago:

You're on the right and collective quadrant of the political compass! You believe in a strong military, an efficient government to intervene when necessary, low taxes and a free market economy. You value tradition, hardwork, and you tend to respect religious authority. You're patriotic and sceptical of people looking for a hand out. You believe in government institutions and you have a strong sense of belonging to those with the same nationality as you. You believe in individual freedoms, but you also take into account tradition and social order. Anarchy and communism are your worst nightmares! Ronald Reagan is most likely one of your personal heroes! What do you think? Is this accurate?

True dat.

Abe Lincoln aint a contemporary Republican; I don't care what his greenbacks policy was.

Sorry to offend - I should have included a winky face. I was more or less mocking the way people pick presidents which, while silly and superficial, has permanent consequences.
For example, today I find myself rooting for my boy Bernie just because it’s kind of entertaining when he goes on a rant.
I seriously think that in the age of Trump, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson could be at least a senator if he needed a job.

Sorry - that was supposed to be, "d@mn" you and was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

Re: Democratic Challengers 8: Candidates Can Only Work for A Vegan Farm Market

So as usual, it turns out that I’m the moron... I can’t keep up with my own “joke”

Nah - I might have got my post wrong as well were I in your spot.
