Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

He was pointing that that aside from the state he was then visiting and Alaska and Hawaii, he had been to the other 47 states. But he started out by saying 50 states (because one naturally thinks 50 states) and then switching to saying 7 in the middle of it; there's even a little pause. So he just combined two words accidentally. That's it; that's all the other side had after 8 years.

It was certainly something worth melting down about.

Polling showed that people living in red and purple-ish/red states liked Obamacare when it was referred to as the "Affordable Care Act" but when asked if they supported Obamacare they were much less likely to say yes. As my former union members in Ohio (who almost all worked in public libraries) used to say: Words matter. Sanders takes great pride in that notion of "democratic socialism" but calling it that is a turn off to 2/3rds of the country, the 1/3 that is evil and lost, and half of the rest of us who mostly just want to raise our families in peace and a little prosperity. I know what he means by it, but I have at least a working knowledge of the difference between communism and socialism. 85% (if I'm being nice) of America does not.

It needs a patriotic 'Murican name.

57, and he clearly meant it as a joke, but Republicans fussed about it. I remember Old Pio used to bring it up as a running bit in his rants.

Yeah he was exactly who I was thinking about when I said it. I still never understood why people liked reading his bile so much it was 9/10 hatred and 1/10 "in my day Joe McCarthy was a Centrist!" BS.

I mean he basically had a Chris Mathews moment when he met "Its Not Gay If It Is a Public Toilet" McCarthy when he was a kid he told us so himself

538 has called it for Biden: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-primary-forecast/

Holy hell. The explanation is that Bernie needs to win nearly every race left by something like 30 points.

Just to emphasize how quickly Bernie needs to turn this around. If our projections thru 3/17 (next Tuesday) are right, the delegate count at that time would be Biden 1317, Sanders 992, other 139, with 1531 pledged delegates unallocated.

If that holds, Sanders would then have to win *65%* of remaining delegates to earn a majority, which is roughly equivalent to beating Biden by 30 points. In fact, probably more than that, because the states that come after 3/17 (e.g. GA, PA, NJ, MD) are mostly good for Biden.

Time for Bernie to tone it down. My Facebook is full of Bernie posts criticizing past votes or statements from Biden. I don’t want him to drop out but he needs to accept reality and focus on Trump. Get the Bros to see Trump as the enemy and not Biden. Biden is an ally.

538 is behind...MSNBC was pretty much saying this on Super Tuesday. That was why he needed Cali and Texas because even if you assume he takes Michigan he will get trounced in Florida and everywhere else where Black people exist. Even the best projections had it that way which is why the brokered convention was gaining steam before South Carolina. Clyburn literally shifted the entire thing the second he endorsed and when the rest of the Moderates consolidated Bernie was toast. Bernie needed them to keep Biden below 15% in California or he was in heaps of trouble.

Biden should name a running mate on 3/16.

Too bad your sense of humor is ****

It was an honest attempt, and if the execution of it was more than a 5th grade effort (and I'm being generous) it might have had a chance.

Bernie's people are in meltdown mode...full court press on Twitter. Apparently he is the only one who can beat Trump even though he cant even beat Biden...

He hasn’t beaten anyone at anything in twenty plus years.

On the opposite side of this, it’s interesting how many of the “resistance” accounts are also anti-Bernie. A bunch of the “alt-dept” accounts made when Trump shut down the official accounts after he got mad at the NPS Twitter, that Palmer Report guy who posts on every Trump tweet, I figured they all had some progressive and revolutionary streak in them. But nope, they appear to just be very interested in getting back to status quo.

Depending on the medium my assumption at this point is every social media account is from a troll farm, either Russian, Chinese, CPAC, AIPAC, or the Wobblies. For actual news I trust AP and the Beeb on their good days and that's about it.

And yet here we are talking about M4A.

I wonder how that happened?

It must have been a miracle.

I can't wait for the Coronavirus to explode causing Trump to enact M4A, and his inevitable self back patting for coming up with the idea.

It'd be nice, but with the amount of "Biden's a Republican" and "If it's not Bernie I'm not voting" stuff I see from the Bros...I don't see it happening.

I think there's less of them but the ones keeping up the fight are going more berserk. I was looking at daily kos the other day and it was like 5 die hard Berners doing all the anti-Biden/Bernie is god posts. One guy even set up a poll in his thread that had something like Bernie - true progressive vs Biden - corp sellout and in his own poll people chose Biden like 2:1! :D

One thing that is a bad look, and Sanders himself has done this, is calling Biden's surge due to corporate interests and whatnot. I don't think those black people who saved his campaign in South Carolina are going to like being called corporate shills but hey, the race isn't over yet....
