Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

It'd be nice, but with the amount of "Biden's a Republican" and "If it's not Bernie I'm not voting" stuff I see from the Bros...I don't see it happening.

It occurs to me that I don't see this stuff, and I don't, because I'm not on Twitter. Twitter is not America.

Because of my, ahem, circles I know a spectrum of people whose right wing roughly corresponds to Sanders and then it starts getting interesting. None of these people -- NONE -- is acting the way people here are jabbering about.

For the record, everybody I know from My Little Soviet: Redistribution is Magic is planning to vote blue no matter who because they understand math and comprehend the existential threat to the world that is Dump & the Dumpies.

Are my comrades characteristic of Sanders supporters? I would propose they are just as representative as the slathering mouth breathers you guys are cackling about, and what's more every one of my fellow travelers is a guaranteed real person. Who knows how many of the bomb throwers you are reading are trolls, or plants from other campaigns, or From Russia with Love?

And yet here we are talking about M4A.

I wonder how that happened?

It must have been a miracle.

And?

Kepler and mookie talk about how hot AOC is

Roy Moore and his peeps are talking about 12yo girls

Talking about m4a ain’t making it so. ;)

yeah, I'm seeing a ton of "Bernie or Bust" bros on social media rabidly attacking Biden, who is basically a lock at this point. It's not good. It's not as isolated as Kep thinks. Go on facebook and look at any Bernie or Michael Moore post, or any article about Biden. You'll see the Bros.

Plus, it's not like we've seen any instances in the last five years or so where Sanders lost a nomination that he thought he was going to win, his supporters blamed the establishment in the Democratic Party for the loss, decided to sit out the election and let some complete tool become President.

Hey, great. Glad we could finally enact HillaryCare or RomneyCare Or strengthen Obamacare.

And if the movement had a better figurehead we wouldnt be talking about it we would be fighting to protect it.

Oh wait, you are a Mets fan an extra couple wins a season is like winning the first round of the playoffs :D

(one of my best friends is a Mets fan :( )

Depending on the medium my assumption at this point is every social media account is from a troll farm, either Russian, Chinese, CPAC, AIPAC, or the Wobblies. For actual news I trust AP and the Beeb on their good days and that's about it.

You can pick out the trolls pretty easy...especially the Bots which are just fun :D

The ones I am seeing are legit people (only a few media types) they are part of the "Only Bernie Can Beat Trump" crowd that is often retweeted by people like John Cusack.

So your anecdotal evidence matters and everyone else's doesnt? You realize we have friends we talk to also and yet you dismiss them with a wave of your hand every time we dare throw a side eye at the Bros. Hell trix models their behavior all the time on this site and yet you still cant see it.

No offense, but the people you socialize with arent going to be the people pulling this crap. I dont see you hanging out with a lot of 20 something Che shirt wearing Bernie supporters. You probably dont have a lot of cocktail parties with the people who think Joe Rogan is the voice of reason.

And it isnt just on Twitter, or Facebook or whatever social media account you want to talk about...this is the crap they peddle in interviews. (still despite Bernie losing worse than last time) This is the stuff they say outside his rallies. This is the stuff I hear with my own ears when talking to the Non-AARP Socialist Crowd. They arent evil, but they most certainly are ignorant and they are both exactly what the movement needs and what it doesnt.

This isn't just Twitter and a lot of the ones I see, I work with. So once again, you can stop with your holier than thou BS.
Some are likely Russian bots on social media, but they are real live people as well.
Just because you don't know them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Jill Stein...the loonbat who is almost as paid off by Russia as Trump? She doesnt have the brain power to experience cognitive decline let alone understand it. She is Ben Carson only he isnt stupid enough to be an Anti-Vaxxer.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

So basically, tankies? Yeesh.

No, nobody I know supported the USSR.

It is perfectly consistent to be a Leftist and also support personal freedom and civil liberties, regardless of what Ayn Rand and Lew Rockwell tried to drill into your little heads.

I always figured the left was the the promoter of civil liberties. Even during my libertarian phase I saw the left as the promoter of the 1A and certainly 4A and 5A.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

So your anecdotal evidence matters and everyone else's doesnt?

No, my anecdotal evidence of actual human beings is exactly as valuable as everyone else's. Very little.

However, your anecdotal evidence of what you see on social media is worth even less. Bupkis, in fact.

A million people scold the same dozen trolls. Because they are all now in the same echo chamber, they think it's ubiquitous, but it all tracks back to the same source. I'm sure there's a word for it in information theory -- it is essentially how astro-turfing works, and why Bloomberg bought Influencers. It's the social media equivalent of the Seattle windshield pitting epidemic.

The conservatives decided the right to amass an infinite amount of wealth is the only right that counts. That's why relatively intelligent albeit ignorant people will argue with a straight face that Democrats are against freedom and Republicans are for it.

I don't think it's a freedom thing Kep but more of the views you're putting forth seem to completely absolve people from personal responsibility.

So, if college is free, no need to bust your @ ss to keep a scholarship. If healthcare is free, no need to stay in shape. If income is free (UBI), no need to be a productive citizen. If prison time is abolished for non-violent crime, no need to police your own behavior. Now you personally most likely believe in personal responsibility which is great, but when the masses see all these democratic socialist proposals the question of is anybody responsible for doing anything creeps up. Might also be why the young aren't turning out - its somebody else's responsibility, and not theirs, to vote Sanders into office to bring about these changes.
