Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Sanders is what he is. People like him do not go gently into that dark night and they don't make a lot of "half friends." The pundits would have hated Tom Paine too. So divisive.

When democratic socialism is taken for granted as the basic operating condition of the US economy by both parties in 2050, Sanders will be considered a trailblazer. He will be revered once he is safely dead.

Right now he's ugly and mean and self-defeating, but he's making it possible for AOC to dance at her inauguration.

John Adams was a d-ck, too.

How does one become Unsafely dead???

Nope. I linked to Caitlin Johnstone who is decidedly not a trumper or gop’er and well, the videos she links to are illustrative of the problem:

https://consortiumnews.com/2020/03/06/stop-calling-it-a-stutter-dozens-of-examples-show-bidens-dementia-symptoms/

And much like you...she's also not a **** doctor.

She’s not a doctor, however, her husband cared for elderly patients with dementia for 15 years which informs her view on this matter.

It may...and I stress may point to some things but it still is not a diagnosis and never will be until a doctor does it.
Again all im saying is there are times I and other stutterers I know can sound like him and we don't have dementia. This definite diagnosis that people across the internet have of him is wrong.
Is it possible? Yes. But videos of him speaking are not definitive...especially when he has a stutter.

So if it's fair to talk about Biden's "dementia" surely solo will have no issues talking about some incidents involving Bernie as well.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

We have 3 ancient demented old men left in the race. The question now is which one of them is equipped to pick the right VP and hire the right people. That list in order IMO is.

1. Biden
2. Bernie

Trump cannot be included on any list where hiring people is in the criteria.

I also suspect that lack of sleep is causing these older gentlemen to appear more fuked up than they actually are. I get partially insane when I don't get enough sleep and I'm like half their age! ;)

We can still have a paper back-up with a thumb drive, it's just the means where the data is transferred from the precinct to the count. And to be honest that is way more secure than the open internet. There's a reason we air gap secure networks.

Unless people "lose" the thumb drives.

Digital voting is a perfectly viable method -- it's why we don't write checks for everything anymore. But just as there is an encrypted backbone for financial transfers, we need one for elections. I mean FFS it's the same exact requirement -- we should just tweak point of service grocery store machines and vote at the checkout line.

MQ messaging transfers could have each states’ Sec. of State’s office receive real-time, encrypted ballot results. It’s exactly how banks and other financial companies (and a whole slew of other industries) transfer real-time data. There would be an upfront expense, but I’d think the security of our democracy/republic is worth it.

Hey, if Bernie talks about his “re-election” and making very odd gaffes and shows confusion you bet it should be an issue. Absolutely.

...Both of these guys would be wise to choose vp candidates now.

Also they are being recorded 24/7. In any week I'm sure I make a few slips. String them together in one concentrated clip and you can make me sound like any actual Dump tweet.

But let's be serious. Sanders doesn't have dementia -- you just have to listen to him on the fly during discussion -- he's very sharp. And Biden doesn't have dementia he's just always had his foot in his mouth. He's had this verbal bizarreness since he was in his 30s. He's That Guy.

They are both perfectly fit to serve as President.

I believe Obama said there was 54 states once.

But again Joe isnt making gaffs because he has dementia (the amount of armchair diagnosing about him and Trump is dangerous and stupid) he is making gaffs because that is who he is. It was one of the major knocks against him before he was Obama's Veep, it was the major knock against him when rumors were he would run against Hillary and it still is today. The guy speaks off the cuff and is not the brightest. Pre-Trump that would have been a killer but today that seems to be where the voters feel most comfortable. (to be fair though Dubya was folksy and dumb too but he also ran against an Aluminum Pole) It seems people dont want someone super polished with all the right answers, they want a grandpa who can tell how good things used to be in the old days and speaks oddly and out of turn.

(the second paragraph is obviously not directed at you Kep)

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Bernie is smart, he is just OUT there. Way out there. He has a different process of getting his ideas across to others. I'm not ripping him in that aspect, his method is just different than many others.

I agree that Joe is "That Guy" when it comes to verbal gaffes. Just because one isn't the best at public speaking, doesn't mean they are unfit to be president.

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Its easy to trash the Sanders campaign, and many people are piling on right now, but he has come pretty far. As has been written previously however, he made one fundamental bet that didn't pay off - engaging young voters. I'm not really sure what else he could have done as the vast majority of his policies are tailored towards them. But the whole rationale for his candidacy has collapsed and its tough to become a big tent kinda guy when you've spent the last 4 years telling everyone that uncompromising democratic socialism was going to drive new voter turnout and completely upend "the system".

Re: Democratic Challengers 2020 - 12: The End of the Beginning

Bernie is smart, he is just OUT there. Way out there.

Relative to the window of discussion on Sunday talk shows, sure, he's out there. relative to the talk around the kitchen table among people who don't have homes in Alexandria and the Hamptons, and who are living paycheck to paycheck, where one medical bill or an employer's whim can destroy them? He's not out there at all.

The lower middle class (which is really all that's left of the American middle class after 40 years of Reaganomics) has an aversion to words like "socialism" and "public option" from long training to self-harm, but stripped of those terms, when polled about the actual results of Sanders' policies -- more security in exchange for fairer taxes -- they have the same values. Even through the relentless propaganda, people at risk can understand we are a community and not a bunch of atoms all agitated to undercut each other the way the Plutes want.

This is the very heart of it. The Plan was to abjure the Center and find a windfall on the Left.

It didn't work, and I sincerely doubt that if Sanders with his peculiar personality and undoubted sincerity could not do it then anybody else can.

My plan of action of the last 20 years is a ruin. "Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth."

So, right now we can do the normal Democratic thing and run to the Center. God knows the GOP won't be meeting us there to contest it -- they're goosestepping off in Mussolini Fairyland. So, stanch the bleeding and back to the drawing board.
