An interesting argument t is- does Bernie polarize too many moderates, or does the amount of young, new voters he energizes make up for it? Impossible to measure but he may help get out the apathetic crowd

According to this academic working paper, Sanders would have to increase youth (youth is, in this paper, described as under 35- yay, I'm still youthful) turnout by 11%, an unprecedented number that Obama wasn't even able to achieve among African-American voters in the historic 2008 presidential election, in order to become as competitive against Trump as the other more moderate candidates, since that huge surge in youth turnout would be offset by all of the other undecided voters flocking to Trump.

Jim Clyburn chooses the machine. Apparatchiks everywhere rejoice.

lol

Dude, he's one of the highest ranking Democrats. Of course he's going to pick an actual Democrat.

Poor timing. He should have kept his mouth shut.

Re: Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

so this is anecdotal, but I'm hearing lots of talk from democrat friends that they are concerned about Bernie in the general and they wish the moderates would consolidate around someone like Pete and they hope Warren stays in to draw support from Bernie.

When’s the right time for one of the country’s most powerful black men to endorse? He said in an interview the other day that he planned to endorse after the debate was completed.

I mean, s**t, his home state is about to vote. Seems kind of pointless to endorse someone after his state votes, yes?

I’d like Liz to stay around because I prefer her over the others

Not cool, dude. Gives off the impression that you want blacks with significant influence to S T F U if they're not on board with Bernie.

Look at it this way. If you're Sanders, you WANT Biden to win SC (narrowly). If Biden doesn't win he drops out and his votes go to Bloomberg. If he does he stays in and divides the mods.

If you're Sanders you want to win SC. You never, ever win by losing -- this is another lesson the Center has never learned.

This isn't rocket science for all the Carville wanna bes out there. You win the nomination by winning as many delegates as you can so they can't take it from you at the convention. For Sanders (and possibly Warren) that means you need a majority of delegates. Too many fat and comfortable time servers are going to be threatened by the prospect of an actual Democratic candidate to take any chances.

****ing Steyer has something like 15% in one of the latest SC polls.

Look Kep, you're trying to build a coalition here, not an enemies list. Clyburn can endorse whoever the fuk he wants, whenever he wants. Acting all butthurt over an endorsement with little value after the contest in a few days isn't a good look and reinforces every negative stereotype people have about Sanders supporters. Take a chill pill and don't worry about it.

I wasn't "butthurt," I was saying Clyburn made a poor personal political choice for the future. If the machine is still in control he's fine. If there's a new sheriff in town he has no reason to alienate young Democratic voters in his state, particularly young black voters, who see the senescence of the Old DLC Way and are preparing to clear out the deadwood.

Political machines die because they ossify and never take change seriously. They work tirelessly to cool passions, defuse any call for reform, and spread fear or mockery of new ideas, because they like their spot at the top of the wheel. So they look absolutely impregnable until it all collapses at once. Clyburn didn't need to do anything -- he could have kept his options open. That was the smart move. Nobody back in DC had his nuts in a vice. This was an unforced error. By committing he identifies himself with the Clueless Olds, and that may not be a good place to be in the next few years.

Note the difference with Obama.

That's so weird. Did he run ads 24/7 just there, or something?

I honestly have trouble remember he's even still running.

He has spent the most time there, yes. A lot of time.

That depends...is he endorsing Bernie? ;)

And dont even try it Kepler you would be showing it as proof of greatness if he endorsed Warren and Bernie and everyone here knows it :D

Clyburn is like 80 years old. I'm not sure he cares about his future standing with the Socialist Utopia Politburo. ;)
