Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

People are talking about making post-secondary ed free, not mandatory.

Eliminating tuition is not the same as eliminating admission standards.

And I am saying I think limits need to be in place if it’s free vs a generic “everyone can go”

Re: Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

There are plenty of legitimate sites that indicate longer wait times for universal care. If Bernie can implement it with shorter wait times let him be President for life. I highly doubt it's possible.

Plenty of legitimate sites? Please share.

Also it makes logical sense that if people use preventative care more often it will reduce the need for more serious procedures down the road that the greatest source for long wait times.

Does this help?

However, the data—both from other nations with universal coverage and from historic expansions of coverage within the United States—show that this is not the case. Patients in peer nations generally have similar or shorter wait times than patients in the United States for a variety of services, refuting the argument that universal coverage would necessarily result in longer wait times in the future.

This issue brief provides an overview of the factors that affect wait times, outlines evidence that suggests universal coverage need not increase wait times in the long run, and discusses policy solutions to mitigate any impact on wait times in the short run.

In Bernie's defense (this will hurt a bit) effing Trump claimed Mexico would pay for the wall and none of the orcs blinked. Why is it so hard for Democrats to similarly pull the wool over their eyes if you will?
Cause I said it before, and Handy jumped all over me for it.

Only Democratic candidates face scrutiny for the things they promise, and the ways they will pay for it.

Republicans just say, "this is what we're gonna do", and.......good enough.

One would assume that more people with less expensive coverage means more doctor visits not being put off hence more delays until the market catches up and generates more providers to handle the demand. That's not necessarily a bad thing in the big picture but rather a shift in spending and usage away from hospital visits as has been mentioned earlier. But there will be some inconvenience and its worthwhile to be upfront about that.

Re: Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

I don't think that is party specific. Maybe that's why I am independent. To me, candidates say what it takes to get elected. Once in office those promises are not so easy to make a reality. But it worked during the campaign. More than that I simply hate the back and forth between idiots on both sides. The antiquated two party system that leads to extremes on both sides. No reason an independent candidate shouldn't have a legitimate shot to be President. Maybe that is something that can eventually change. But some people live for the bickering.

Ranked choice voting and proportional representation would help take care of the two party system. But, as for politicians saying anything to get elected, while true, as it turns out, they come through on their campaign promises around 2/3 of the time. Caveat: this predates Trump's presidency.

Jimmy Dore tearing it up and Sanders handed Larry Holt his *** for absurdly ignoring the most pertinent stat in the WSJ article.

The centrists Dems and GOP’ers can whine all they want about socialism or democratic socialism but gilets Jaunes is going to happen here. Sorry brahs but you’ve had your time.

More and more Whitney Webb, Jimmy Dore, Lee Camp etc. are out there educating and it’s having a rhizome effect.

Right. When someone proposes a $2 trillion airplane program the Pentagon doesn't even want no one asks, "But how will you pay for it?"

Tell us how well that yellow vest movement worked. Is Macron out of power yet? Have the French austerity measures and tax cuts been repealed? Or was it just a bunch of pi55ed off college kids starting riots to own the knucks?

OTOH, this doesn't sound like disaffected college kids..

"French firefighters are setting themselves on fire to protest Macron's economic policies"

So basically, Macron is bringing trickle-down to France. Good luck with that.

Why is it we never hear about tax cuts or major economic boom/bust cycles in bastions of tax-and-spend socialism like Denmark or Norway? Is it just because they're so small and insignificant on the global scale?

It’s working well and if you read the news it’s one hell of a lot of groups beyond “****ed off college kids”.

Sorry, but the ONLY thing any government or members of the power Elite fear is a united populace taking to the streets.

Because they don’t subject their plebes to the largest ponzi scheme in the history of earth: the Wall Street stock market for one. That’s there’s no boom or bust.

As for taxes who’s clamoring for lower rates with free health care and no wars for the population to fund???

I guess I just don't see how this plays in to what is being proposed. Nobody is out campaigning to reduce college admission standards.

If anything it seems reasonable to assume that admittance to public colleges and universities would become *more* competitive once the financial barrier to entry is removed.

Fewer people atteniding 4-year institutions simply because their parents can afford it or because it's the "thing to do" after HS, and more people who have shown significant aptitude and have out performed their peers, regardless of their parent's income level.

If daddy still wants to buy Britney or Tucker college admittance they can pony up at a private institution.

Or they could take advantage of free education at a public 2-year or trade school where they meet admission criteria and that might be more suited to their abilities.

Re: Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

I’m not disagreeing with that. I probably worded something incorrectly.

Trade, community college, 2 year- I agree that should be free. My point was the 4 year degree programs shouldn’t be free for everyone. I say this as someone who spends way too much time recruiting at campuses and see all kinds of kids who are realizing this wasn’t the right track

That's when we get them into consulting. Anyone with an Associate's degree can slave away at PPT decks and schedule the pod's meetings for a couple of years. That is, unless you're Pete Buttigieg in which case you're directly responsible for Canadian grocery store price-fixing schemes you magnificent bastard!

Re: Democratic Challengers 10: If we stop fighting Nazis, the world will die.

No. After having worked in multiple universal systems, I think I have a decent handle on them.

Would I prefer a Finnish , Swiss or Singapore system? Sure.

Universal care is better for most people. No more bankruptcies, denial of simple care. Sure, right now you don’t care as you have coverage you can afford but it’s not like that for many, many people.

Knowing your background, I’m fairly confident you are far and away the board’s expert on healthcare systems. I’m guessing you’re acknowledged as such within the company you work for as well. At minimum.
