Its not even necessarily about a Trump presidency, though that definitely is advantageous for Putin. But ultimately the goal is to keep politics and the public divided, bickering and dysfunctional.
Thats it.
And this already existing narrative about "Bernie Bros" is perfect for the Russians to exploit to that end.

Suggesting the Russians have determined Trump could beat Sanders and thats why they are carrying this out misses the point.

Whomever gets the Democratic nomination will be a Socialist. If Bloomberg wins it Faux "News" will tell the cult that Mike studied at the knee of Karl Marx himself.

The bolded parts are definitely right in line with my views. Pure communism only works on communal farms where people have agreed to live that way. Most people have no interest in that lifestyle, which is why mass-scale Soviet communism had to be enforced with the business end of a tank and the suspension of any rights to personal expression and self-determination.

That's also why Democrats aren't communists. But don't tell my relatives that! ;)

Honest question: Why do you think Russia wants to help Sanders?

It seems like the logical answer is they think he would be weak, or have a weakness they can easily exploit in the general. Pump him now, unleash the Facebook zombies against him later. Are they wrong? I’m not sure I’d want to bet against them — they know how to influence an election and are putting a lot of resources at this.

Communism would be the perfect system, but there's one flaw. The human trait of greed (in different forms).
1. The traditional "I want more than the Jones'."
2. We all get the same anyways, so why should I work as hard at my specific job that I'm good at?
3. The even more subtle: why should I work to be something really needed like a doctor or a teacher? I'll just be a ditch digger, and still get the same benefits.

Edit: got a 15% on the test. The greed factors played a part in many an answer.

Putin's goal was always to disrupt America and split them over politics.

Trump getting elected was icing on the cake.

Think of it this way: you're doing well in a hockey game, making good passes, getting a goal or an assist, but then you get a natural hat trick, with the 3rd goal the GWG.

That's what Putin is doing/did.

Did Putin expect Trump to win? And even now, does he really expect Trump to win? Who knows? Either way, America is divided. Trump being in charge is just a bonus to Putin.

If Putin really did want Sanders to win the nomination this timing sucks for him. Now all the concern trolls will say a vote for Bernie is a vote for Putin. If this information was going to get out at all, better in September or October as that would have caused the most destruction. OTOH, if Vlad wants to derail the campaign and hurt Bernie, 10 days before Super Tuesday is a great time.

I took your post in a different way. My bad.
And your take on "a vote for Bernie" is the whole point. He's in the lead (or close to it) for the nom. Bloomberg is hanging himself, if that debate carries any merit (which I think it does in Bloomberg's case, this was his debut), why waste noise on him? Biden is done, Warren has a shot, and the rest are dark horses at best. That being said, polls have been very much more wrong than now (see: last election).

The Russians are playing the odds right now.

Or, they're not, and just want people to think they do. As was said, their main goal is chaos.

If Bloomberg gets the nomination, you will hear stories about Russians working for him.
