Demcratic Challengers 11: Saving the Republic one voter at a time!

Re: Demcratic Challengers 11: Saving the Republic one voter at a time!

Bernie failed to expand his base. He got beat fair and square by Hillary and he never looked in the mirror. Instead he assumed like all his supporters that he somehow got screwed. Then, this year the process is more than fair for him and what did the Centrists do? They saw South Carolina and consolidated before Bernie could entrench his foothold.

I'll admit, like every other pundit I thought Nevada was a big deal for Bernie. Turned out not so much.

And, yes, I would rather have Bernie right now than Biden. But that's not going to happen unless he suddenly starts getting old and black people to vote for him.

Re: Demcratic Challengers 11: Saving the Republic one voter at a time!

Kep's kind of taking a breather too. Having said all that I'm very disappointed in how things turned out for my candidate Lizzy Warren. IMHO by far the best choice out there, but the voters decide and I'm all in on Zombie Joe. Pass the brains to eat and lets start terrorizing the countryside or whatever it is that zombie's do. ;)

EDIT: I don't know what I'm going to do with all the weed that I bought thinking Bernie was going to have a big night! Stupid 538 and their predictions.

Kep was here last night. He was pretty emotional and not seeing things very clearly at first but he was definitely around.

https://www.vox.com/2020/3/4/21164091/sanders-biden-super-tuesday-endorsements-primary-2020

This is a great article. Sanders has a pathway to victory. He should read this. And it doesn’t require wholesale abandonment of his values.

It's a good piece and I can't argue with any of it.

My takeaway from yesterday is that Sanders' and my theory that a strong Left lurch would energize a large bloc of voters previously alienated by the Centrism of Dem nominees was not supported. There will be analyses for years why, but the fact is Biden won the night and should now continue to gain strength and win the nomination outright. That will support the Centrists' model of the electorate.

So to Handy and dx and others: congratulations. It looks like you were right and I was wrong. I'm disappointed but I'm glad to find out in March and not November, and that's why we have primaries. Vote Blue no matter who!

Now I'm going to slink off and cuddle my Marx teddy bear for a while...

Obvious troll is obvious.

don't hope people think clearly as handy and deutsche bank are trying to think. y'all have no clue. :D

Dont congratulate me...I wanted to be wrong. Lest we forget I backed you up when you said Bernie should drop after the Heart Attack to make things better for Warren. I banked on the youth vote being the difference. Bernie banked on them being all he needed.

History always proves that the youth are needed to put you over the top, but they cant be counted on to be the backbone of your campaign. The Dems need the African American vote and women, and sadly Bernie just didnt do enough to get them in his corner.

He’s gotten a huge boost in Latinx support, but that doesn’t get you far in the East.

Re: Demcratic Challengers 11: Saving the Republic one voter at a time!

tippiecanoe must be on his way to florida to canvas for bernie! straight from iowa to texas to florida. he is gonna charm the old broads and drive them to the polls to flip the switch for bernie! then take them out to red lobster for the 4p sr special and all the cheese bread he can eat. (mookie is jealous. that bread is awesome!!)

And he got mad at me the other day when I said he was boring. ;)

mookie never gets mad :)

Re: Demcratic Challengers 11: Saving the Republic one voter at a time!

And endorsed Biden. Supposedly if he didn’t win he was going to use his current infrastructure to help the nominee, so the money cannons are now pointed towards Joe.

I hope he goes heavy downticket too. Bloomberg's money in Congressional campaigns could be overhelming. That's the sort of advantage the Kochs used to give the GOP.

If he does that Alito and Thomas will want to overturn Citizens United. :)

Thanks.

Sanders' strength with Latinx may indicate something for the future. A young, brown, female Bernie could be dynamite in 2028 or 2032 (cough AOC) but in the meantime the traditional Donna Brazile understanding of Democratic politics proved itself. So now we go forward with that landscape.

I still think Abrams is the ideal Veep for Biden, and the way to create a multi-generational black tsunami in November.

Assuming Biden wins the Presidency I think his main job while he is President is to try and build a coalition around progressives and centrists in the Democratic lane. If he/they can find some way to bind those two together they could neuter the GOP entirely.

As an aficionado of mookie's bit, I'd like to clarify that he is not a troll. mookie is a class clown, and a good one, and has a twinkle in the eye, not a shiv in the neck. He's one of the forum's institutions, like Ralph (the eminence grise) and pre-aneurysm Flag (the crazy Vietnam vet). He performs an important role in Cafe's rich pageant and this place would be considerably poorer without him. So lay off mookie.

I think the way to do this is to have a definite goal and a roadmap to get there. Then the difference between Center and Left isn't the roads taken, it's just the speed. That's makes it a lot more friendly.

Example:

Problem: Health Care

Eventual Goal: universal access to health care regardless of ability to pay

15 MPH: Obamacare

30 MPH: public option within market competition

60 MPH: Medicare for all

120 MPH: slice the Sacklers' throats in the public square and drink their rich, thick, immune blood

I usually don't get into politics with good friends. But a couple are ticked and thinking it is rigged. I'm politely trying to get them away from the edge. Mixed results so far. A key so far has been not engaging with their fury. Letting them vent.

Uh, 538 was predicting a good night for Biden as of yesterday morning when they got their only post SC polls.

if she can throw the brakes on when joeb tries that "i'm gonna raise your taxes" bit and tells him, "no, you are not gonna raise their taxes, you are gonna raise THEIR taxes over there". then she is a good choice.
