Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

I believe I share little of Hagel's view on many issues, particularly social ones (Warner also). However, I can respect people for not delving into sheer lunacy just because a certain audience they're speaking to demands it. Case it point: Palin - death panels, Romney - START treaty will make the US unable to respond to nuclear attack.

I still remember that chilling scene when the moderator asked how many of the 9 Republican candidates were Creationists and, what, 7 raised their hands? Those were mostly intelligent, educated adults pandering to a ****ing cargo cult to get votes!

That's the moment that party should have lost their spot on the ballot on non compos mentis. Let the Libertarians have their slot for a few years.

Well no duh, you aren't Hagel. But if you subscribe to the straight line view of the political spectrum, and presuming you reside way out on the left, Hagel's a lot closer to you than DeMint is.

Those crazy wingnuts! Refusing to hold a view that only 40% of the country holds!

Depends if you're on a sphere. DeMint's so nutty he may go around the globe and pop back up among the hard left. (Don't laugh. Kristol and Poderholtz did it in reverse.)

If you ran those numbers adjusting for the educational and financial success of the candidates, that number would drop to about 4.

We may be a nation of Indians rules by Swedes but (1) the guys on that podium were Swedes with fake dots stuck to their foreheads, and (2) there's a reason most of India smell like poop.

Oh, and since when is a fact a "view"?

You're not suggesting politicians pander to voters are you? Shocking, if true. :D

Again, you and 40% of other people believe it is a fact. Fine. But let's not do the "These people disagree with me, therefore they must be crazy" thing.

45% of American Catholics don't know that the Church maintains transubstantiation (that communion actually becomes the body and blood of Jesus, not just symbols of them) as part of its doctrine, but I would still hope 100% of the Church's leaders believed in it (or at least recognized it as part of the Church's Doctrine).

Let's not use the ignorance of the general public to excuse the ignorance of its leaders.

Really? I will pass on more efficient govt if its tied to a revival of that environment of fear again.

Rational disagreement on theory is to be expected -- that's what theory is for. People can even do the "evolution is God's way of getting things done thing" thing to save their magic books -- that's functionally the equivalent of saying it's Nature's way of getting things done for people who want Nature to have eyes and ears like Mr. Potato Head. No harm no foul.

But if somebody says "that fossil isn't a million years old," that's the equivalent of "those stars are in your telescope," and those people aren't demonstrating anything but ignorance or a mental disorder. To be fair, of the 60% of people who don't believe in evolution, 99% of them will never have any other idea of what it is than daddy or preacher or the man in the radio said it was bad. For that matter, of the 40% who identify evolution correctly as a settled matter of fact, likely half of them will never have any other idea of what it is than daddy or the teacher said it was good.

We can use it as a condemnation of the teaching ability of Catholic leaders, though. For Christ's sake (literally) that's a pathetic figure. If you're going to play baseball, you have to know there are three strikes.

In this case those people are not only crazy, but just plain wrong.

Comparable to the cigarette CEOs testifying that nicotine wasn't addictive. Sometimes I wonder why we even have a congress or congressional hearings. I'm no expert and my knowledge is woefully inadequate, but the only Senate hearing I can think of that actually accomplished something was the inquiry into the loss of the Titanic.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

Tough decision whether to vote for Madia or Paulsen in 08. In the end, I made an exception and voted for Paulsen...I really wanted to see a changed, new GOP. Just got done watching some seriously bad negative ads by him...looks like I made a mistake.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

If it was a Republican, the she would be a he...and it wouldn't have been a dildo. But he would have been the loudest opponent against his own lifestyle.:D

I think I actually followed that.

Re: Death to the Incumbent!! Your guide to the 2010 primaries

So, yesterday a tape comes out of a Jerry Brown aide calling Meg Whitman a whore.
Naturally, today the National Organization for Women came out and defended Whitman.
HA! Just kidding, they endorsed Jerry Brown.
