dear board, please accept my friend request...

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

Y'know, I wanted to say "Hey, that looks like MEg".

Hokydad is right. I do fail.

Also, I can only think of two people who can be Jon. King Buzzo from the Melvins and John Flansburgh from They Might Be Giants. The actor portraying me will be 9 times more talented.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

Is it too soon to say that the "upgraded" board sucks, and they should go back to the old one? (The look is fine, but whatever's under the hood is more complicated and thus slower, and that's totally not necessary.)

(And by "not necessary" I mean "****ing annoying".)

Nope, not too soon. Of course in a few months we'll have forgotten about the old version just like we forgot about al previous versions. But yeah I hate it when site try to over-snazzy when all you really need on them is text to read.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

Now, to be fair, maybe the people who distribute vBulletin stopped supporting the old version and they had to upgrade it, I really don't know. I suppose I should give them the benefit of the doubt until we know for sure that they were just like "let's incorporate all the social networking crap and slow down our page loading just to tick off the forum posters."

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

Is the whole REP thing still intact? I can't seem to find it in the new menus... It would sure suck to lose the ability to leave anonymous snarky comments :p

I was tempted to neg rep you to say "yes, it still works," but I didn't.

Instead of being the scales of balance from the old board, it's now the sherriffs symbol next to the (!) warning icon below your username/details.

And to check your rep, it's now the link in the upper right called "Settings" instead of User Control Panel.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

It's there. It looks like a six-pointed star to the left of each post.

Edit: As aparch said. :D

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

Ah, got it...

It's gonna take some time to get used to the new layout and figure out what can and needs to be customized...

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

I don't like how I have to log in everytime I go online and show up here.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

The new board looks like the Candyland version of a board. And the emoticons aren't altogether easily seen/identified when they have yellow in them.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

I love the whining that goes on whenever a web app gets upgraded. Give it a rest, you'll get used to it. Sheesh. When Facebook does it, it's usually a media frenzy, too..

Although the one thing I find annoying with the new format is the enormous amount of whitespace between a post and the signature.

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

While you're right that people always complain about new designs, and always get used to them, that certainly doesn't prove that new designs are always better, just that people's memories fade about what they preferred about the old designs.

Personally, as I said upthread, this isn't about aesthetics (I don't really care if there's a new icon for rep), it's about performance. The pages are essentially the same (provide the same utility), and load more slowly. This is a thorny issue for me because I browse the board at work (SHOCKING, I know, given my ridiculous post count), and my computer here is a piece of crap that gets bogged down by pages with too much going on "under the hood", so to speak, so I strongly prefer sites with simple design. If I'm typing in a text window and the display doesn't keep up with my fingers, it's tremendously irritating.

Type slower?

Re: dear board, please accept my friend request...

I've not noticed a difference in speed, yet. I'll have to try on an older machine at home.
