Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

The Hillstrand clan has another problem. From Mike Fourtner's web site:

He is a U.S. Coast Guard Certified Captain and he has taken the Time Bandit as Captain for the last 5 years during the summertime, but will not anymore because he has recently purchased his own commercial salmon fishing boat!

Wonder if he'll be back as a deckhand or if the TB has to find someone new.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I'm guessing since he has his own boat, he's gone. Granted, we only saw a small portion of what happened, but he was ****ed about not being given control of the Hillstrand boat last year.

I'd agree with that... and if you don't have an ability to move up and you have the means you may as well strike out on your own.

If you are a smart guy doing this stuff I'd wager you are making 80-140K a year between the crabs and the other seasons.

Now, there are always PLENTY of ways to blow that money... but if you're smart, you don't buy every gold piece and shiny object, by the time you're 30 you can have yourself saved a good way to a boat, have his certs like is described in the other posts, etc. Hell, do it right, using say the University of Phoenix, you could be 90% of the way to a college degree in Business Administration.

So, a crabber with some brains is going to find himself other things to do as long as he doesn't blow it. Not everybody can crack the crab market due to resources, but I bet that isn't the only way somebody like him can do good in his industry.

The Hillstrands as well as Sig Hansen will not appear on the next season of Deadliest Catch. If the show still happens Im willing to bet it will be the last season. Here is the link I saw: link

1. Now its starting to sound like Discovery has been pushing the edge of things... 2. I wouldn't be too sure, except for #1... I think they could survive the shake up... its not complete a soap opera... but if Discovery is going all "tweak the drama" then they're going to force the show to fail all on its own.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

I am really beginning to wonder if there could be a revolt type situation among the crabbers... It sounds like Discovery is really leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many up in Alaska...

I agree. If they're gone, that show's done. Keith and Bill, along with what's left of the Cornelia Marie, aren't nearly enough to carry that show.

Not to mention who knows how much money. I'd be ****ed too if someone came in, jacked up my licensing and merchandising income (Sig's Fish Sticks....really?) and made me a celebrity.

To work another angle, you have to wonder if these guys realized they didn't need Discovery anymore.

I hope that isn't the case, because once they're not on the show anymore, their celebrity status will be gone within minutes.

Though I can understand if they're upset about some of the creative editing done by the show. Especially the Hillstrands since last season made them look pretty bad.

It would be sad to lose Sig though. As much as parts of the show may have been running on fumes, watching the foundation collapse beneath Sig Hansen last season was some of the best narrative story-telling, certainly in reality show history, and maybe in all of television. As much attention as Phil got, rightfully so, last season was entirely Sig's, and it would have been nice to get closure on that story.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

Sig and Phil were the show. Keith sucks, the Hillstrands suck, any other boat sucks:D

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

The Arctic Dawn caught on fire in Seattle around 2am local time Tuesday morning. The Captain was asleep on the ship when smoke woke him up and he was able to escape. Cause of fire is being investigated.

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

Great news, everyone!

Statement Released from Captains Sig Hansen and Johnathan & Andy Hillstrand:

"We're happy we worked everything out with Discovery. A deal's a deal. We're heading up to Dutch Harbor to start filming the new season of DEADLIEST CATCH and hopefully it will be the best one yet.

The Hillstrands added: "Everyone worked really hard on putting together HILLSTRANDED and we're looking forward to wrapping that up. It's something new that we hope people will enjoy."

Re: Deadliest Catch: Season 6

Looking at going to A night with Captain Sig and the Hillstrands in NJ Dec 10th... sounds like a live "after the catch." Would be fun I imagine.

sounds like discovery channel blinked. faced with losing the deadliest catch franchise, i am guessing they offered to drop the suit in exchange for the the upcoming season and the hillstrands finishing up the wirk they owed for the new venture..

That's what they (Discovery) wanted...so I guess you'd say the Hillstrands blinked.
